Question UK RX8 prices ....?

Hi -

First post to this forum - been busy reading all I can on the RX8.
Registered months ago with MazdaUK to get on the pre-order list but have heard nothing.

The press pack downloaded from 'rotarynews.com' has really got me impatient.

My simple question is -

"Does anyone have any information on UK pricing and release dates for the RX8 ?"

Any info on MPG figures would also be appreciated. Everything I read so far they are strangely absent... I hear 'better than rx7 but then , if my rx was anything to go by this would not be difficult ! :-)

Hi Morganrogers and welcome to the forum!
The hi power Rx-8 (240bhp) was estimated at about £22,400 and could do about 24.5 mpg (I don't know if that is urban or what sorry )

Thankyou ! (reply and welcome)

That pretty much ties in with what I had read.
Most magazines seem to think -

low power <30,000 euros (~£19K)
High Power <35,000 euros (~£22.5K)

But Mazda UK have yet to confirm.
I hope they are not going to do an 'rx7' on us....

Hi folks,

1st posting here (been interested in the RX-8 for a while but not got round to visiting..).

Had a chat with one of the dealers yesterday - getting more info sent out soon.

Gist of it is (based on vaguely remembered chat - notes elsewhere!):

Low power model ~ £20k;
Hgh power model ~ £22k.

Estimate ~August for UK?

Colours - may be restricted for first few months (3?) - red, silver, grey & black (which is a pain as I liked the blue!).

Nos restricted so they're obviously looking to get people giving them deposits if they can (what's new?)..

Spec - pass on this one for now but suspect it'll be lowish and you add the options (a la Honda with its CTR..??)..

Hope this is of some use (if you haven't got the info already elsewhere!).

Back to the mini-CD once again..

Happy decision making!:D

You think a CTR is basic...

I have the IntegraR and that does not even has mirrors on the passenger sun-visor ! (much to wifes annoyance)
CTR is luxury compared ! ! !

Suspect RX8 will seem luxurious to me whatever.

I have the mini-cd from the registration website. Does that mean that Mazda will be contacting as soon as firm details are announced ? Or did you get more info from the dealer ?

£22K seems reasonable (compare to the stupid £35K+ for the rx7 anyhow)

You've got sunvisors!! Luxury - don't have any of those in the liz! Or leccy windows like those heavyweight ITR's..

Used to have a CTR (and driven a few ITR's as well)...

Will the 9k rev limit be enough for you though? Along with the fuel consumption issues..

Local dealer contacted me yesterday to have a chat - & I think to emphasise the limited nos/restricted quota/1st come 1st served/give us your dosh for the deposit now please aspect! (fair enough - that's what they're in the business for). Hadn't spoken to them before (or even known about that one's existence) - but I'd registered with Mazda to get the CD, etc. and I guess the details were passed on - hence the call. They're sending out more details on the spec, etc so we'll see. Would presume other dealers may do the same shortly?

After the CTR experience I'm afraid I have some reservations about ordering in advance again, good as the RX may well be! Then again - it's tempting..

How's your spec developing? Another would be defector from the Honda camp?

Will the 9K be enough... well , I am sure I would cope.

Actually , it is odd now. Had the ITR from new (3 years ago) and have got used to a car that will rev to 9K. My problem comes when driving other cars and they cut out at 7... oops !

ITR seems to average about 32mpg (compared to RX8s supposed 24ish). This is offset slightly by the fuel. ITR requires 'super' (read expensive) unleaded. I assume the RX8 will be 95RON ?

I will miss the integra and truth be told if Honda were to bring in the new integra I would probably go for that.
But I *love* the rotary , (I had a 1st Gen RX7) and apart from the thirst it was wonderful. ..

As for local dealer - no call yet. I look forward to it.
I hope the dealers are going to be better trained than they were for the RX7. There used to be only certain Mazda dealers that were 'RX certified'. I called our local once to get some work done and the conversation went something like -
me - "Hi - Are you one of the RX7 registered Mazda dealers ?"
Mazda - "Unfortunately yes."
me - "Uh-huh. Goodbye"
True story....

Slightly off subject , but what went wrong with pre-order on CTR ? Or is it the car you were not keen on ? I borrowed one from our dealer and it seemed fine to me. Not a 'focused' as the integra , but then it is so much cheaper for the same performance I thought it was great ! What happened ?

Nice to hear you're prepared to limit yourself in the name of luxury - have you checked it's got a mirror on the visor though? Think the leather & sunroof are extra on both models as well...

You get used to lower revs quickly enough - if the car's got some torque (that's the MX5 we've got stuffed then...)!

Not using optimax then? Don't know re the RX8 fuel requirement either - though wouldn't be surprised if the figures achieved were for 98 RON...

Likewise would dearly love to have the new ITR - but Honda seem to be making a mess of the enthusiasts' selection these days so I guess they'll offer it when it's about to be replaced elsewhere (again)? Wonder how many others here might consider the new ITR as well?

Thanks for the info re specialist dealers - doesn't surprise me actually (sad to say) - Honda had fun with NSX dealers up here for a while and god knows how Vauxhall dealers cope now they're all (allegedly) allowed to sell the VX220!

Going off topic (briefly) - basically it sounded perfect on paper as I wanted something just a bit more refined than the ITR and knew about the previous gen (JDM) CTR. Ordered in June 01 & got in Nov - one of the 1st delivered up this way. Quickly grew to dislike its steering, high (& poor) driving position, suspension, paintwork and general lack of feeling special or involving you. Preferred the MX5 we already had - so that was it really. Great value though and very fast - but just not special enough at usable speeds (or maybe I'm just getting old & very picky!). :o

What brings you to change then?

Yep - ITR runs on optimax all the time. A small point , but it does add to the running costs.

Interesting point about others in the forum and the ITR. I would be so torn if Honda had the new ITR and Mazda the RX8.
What will probably happen is the ITR will now arrive to give Honda a coupe answer to the RX8 !

As regards fuel - I assumed the RENESIS would run on 95RON unleaded. I only made this assumption because back in the good old days the RX7 was supposed to run on 2star fuel (for those old enough to remember). This of course changed to 'unleaded' so I sort of assumed that the design of the rotary and cool running required a lower octane of fuel....
Guess we will find out soon enough. (Although I got caught with this with the Honda - the brochure says 'unleaded' for fuel. Technically true , but when the car arrived there were stickers on it saying '98RON or higher!' )

Why the change ? Well - I didn't think I would until the RX8 was confirmed.
I have had the ITR from new (3 years ago) and I *love* it. I have never had a car that I just enjoy driving so much. 75K miles , highway , track days and it has not needed so much as a light bulb. I know honda reliability is legendary (geddit?) but for a performance car I think this is fantastic.
However - I do have this thing for rotaries. Drives the wife nuts - books , manuals , even a rotor housing and rotor from an RX7 12A engine , nicely shotblasted and used as an ornament. (I know , I know, sad but I find it fascinating)

Also I love innovation. That is what I really believe the RX8 is about. Engine too big ? Design a rotary ! Door too small ? Put another one in ! B pillar in the way ? Get rid of it , make the rear door suicide !
This kind of innovative thinking is something sadly lacking in most automobiles these days and I think Mazda are to be applauded.

Hope that doesn't sound too lame - but that is why the RX8 for me !

Sun Roof £500

What ever, these prices will give Audi a wake-up call and many others including Nissan 350Z but will it perform?

Sadly I am old enough to remember 2 star fuel (& 5 star as well) - albeit I was (cough) very young at the time..:o

Doesn't sound that lame - though I haven't got bits of vtec engines around here at the moment.. Bits that have fallen off 205GTIs and the odd Lotus maybe...

The innovation/being different angle is interesting - that's what Honda used to be good at (had a Mk2 CRX until recently) - and now Mazda seem to have taken over the mantle (look at Mazda6 vs the new Accord)!

Still waiting on dealer posted stuff on options - but I guess the post above covers the options anyway, combined with the limited colour for launch info!

May have to pay a visit to dealer - strictly for the purposes of research of course.
