Snooper/Police Camera Detector anyone?

I've never seen one, let alone bought one of these detectors.

Anyone got one? Do they work? What's the best and what would you expect to pay?

Thanks for any info or comments.

Cheers

I used to have a Bel radar detector, which was good. These pick up Laser and Radar signals. The problem is that although they are legal at present, the law may change. In addtion, they do not work for any kind of digital or computer scanning cameras that do not put out radar or laser.

I have just bought a Road Angel which uses GPS. This you update with the database, and has accident blacksopt, fixed camaera and frequently used mobile camera locations. It gives your speed too. It aslo hasa Laser module to pick up on hand held Vascar etc.

The GPS aspect is completely legal since it is just a GPS device - like route navigation, working off a a database.

Very pleased with it. £399.

I think they may be actually legal to own, but NOT legal to operate. if you get caught using one then you're likely to get into trouble. Having said that I used to own one but sold it. In fairness it did work to some extent but I got a lot of false readings such as from radar trasmitters used on complex traffic light systems for example.

The GPS that Edo is referring to are legal but useless against mobile speed traps!

In January 1998 the Queen's Bench Divisional Court stated that radar detectors had in fact never been illegal, contrary to popular folklore and the repeated claims of the police.

I think Road Angel with the Laser detector is a good option. I have been considering it for the last few months. It's also legal to have a laser diffuser that confusers a laser beam. After firing it needs 60 seconds to recharge, however, the same applies to a Police handheld since the electronics are similar.

It would appear that you are correct. However, "Detector users in Scotland should note that currently this judgement has not been tested under Scottish Law. Although the likelihood is that a positive outcome would be the result of any test case". you can find more at http://www.uk-radar-detectors.co.uk/legal.htm . Also, this site http://www.radardetectors.co.uk/radar_detector_law.htm details the law in various countries.

They are legal - they do work - I have one in each car - and YOU WILL NEED ONE - See http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.p...686#post117686
