Just blew the motor in my turbocharged RX8 ! I'm stationed at Ramstein AB. Been contacting some rotary shops in the UK about doing a rebuild, but would love to make it happen here in Germany ! I messaged a couple guys on the rx7club to see what they could do for me. Anyone know a shop that could do an engine rebuild here ? Thanks for any help.

(side note: Javier20b did I message you on rx7club also ?)

Checked with Dale at the 'ring who had an aborted project to build a 'Ring RX-8 to equal his MX-5. Engine blew up

Anyway, he says "no". He sent back to UK. Sorry.

Ok this may sound stupid but from what i was reading from yall is that my 04 mazda rx8 is legal to drive over in germany? cause im getting stationed there in less than a year any my rx8 does not have any mods or upgrades. I couldnt find anything on google stating that rx8s are illegal to drive. so for those who have been to germany is this true? Thanks fellas.

As a rule of thumb there are some things you need to have on German roads, e.g. lighting range control.

I don't know if this is just the case for cars registered in Germany ot if it's a general rule.
You won't have to register the car in Germany, will you?

from what i was reading is that shipping my rx8 state side to Germany i will have to get a German license along with having my state license. i get temp plates then German plates. this is while having my rx8 on base. so im not exactly sure if i get my car 100% registered through Germany or i have a weaver stating im military and get some kind of exemption. make sense? i still didn't find anything showing what vehicles i cant have. so i would reckon its safe to say i can have my rx8 over there. im still looking though. Thanks for yalls help.

Pretty sure there have been many US soldiers who took their 8s over, especially in Ramstein Air Base.

Will have a look if I can find some regulations as to what is imperative tk have and if you need to go through "Hauptuntersuchung" (regular 2-year check) and emission testing, but if you get German plates, it should be like this.

I know US Imports that come in commercially via ship are adjusted for domestic registration.

I understand your car would also arrive via ship, so most likely in Bremerhaven, if you go directly. There should be a department with the ocean carrier that can also give you accurate advice because it is their everyday business.

Also I am pretty sure at least 1 guy here on 8club has been to Germany with his 8.

US Military shipping car to Germany.

Its going to be harder to find people that have been shipping cars to Germany due to the fact that most of the bases in Germany are shutting down now. I just left
Germany after 12 years so I can propably answer any question that you have. Just brought my 04 RX 8 Red back from over there.

I shipped my 09 gt over here this time last year, and didnt have to do anything modification wise to register it. It is registered through customs on post which gives you German plates. They do inspect them, and you cannot have any tint on the front drivers or passenger side window. You also have to have a traffic vest, a German approved first aid kit and a warning triangle.

You can feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions, but you should be ok to ship it out here with you.

Hey everyone, I've been at Ramstein AB since September and I've been trying to get with the community over here if there is one. I just bought my second 8 a couple of months ago. I sold my first one right before I moved because the insurance rates were too high, but I missed it too much so I bought another one :D I'm really wanting to meet with any 8 owners I can, I'm constantly bombarded with insults from co workers for owning an 8 and "need back up" haha. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you all!!

Sure thing, what time is this all supposed to be happening at? Depending on what the time is I'll be able to, but I'm sure this will probably be an all day thing, thanks.

Honestly I'm not too sure right now, the places our car group typically meets up at keeps getting inspected by polizei. And I don't think reserving a lot or something on base would be such a great idea because it would be limiting for the locals to get in on it.. There has to be some sort of area we can use though.. I'll ask around

Are there some good areas for meets up there? If there are I'd have no problem putting it up there. I'm sure rotary fans wouldn't mind making a little trip up there either
