Anyone who wants to join the online chat this evening from 9.30pm on the new RX8 owners club but not sure how to get in, follow the instructions below:

goto www.mirc.org and download new 6.1 of the software (click on the mirc logo in the middle of the screen). You may be able to click on this link to do it directly :
http://www.mirc.org/download/mirc61.exe (its 1.2mb in size)
Ok when downloaded, run the executable on ehatever directory you've saved it to on your hard drive. Select all of the defaults - dont worry abut closing "all other programs" when it asks you. Then it will copy the files into the default directory (with a nice progress bar that increases in percentage and size as it installs - only takes a few seconds).
Then when installed, a set of icons will appear (click on start/programs/mIRC/mIRC).
It will tell you that you have 30 days left. Click continue
You then get asked for your full name, email address, nickname and alternate nickname. Type these in (for nickname type oilman and in alternate type OilmanSi or something like that) then click on the servers categogry on the left. Under IRC network leve it as "all" thenIRC server, change that to be "EFNET, EU, UK, London" then click "ok". The screen will then go blank (the white part of the screen). Then after a few seconds, another grey pop up window will appear with lots of names of chat "rooms", all starting with a hash (#). type #rx8 in the box and press return. Hopefully you will connect and we will all be in there.

Cheers
Oilman

Sharing the results

OK folks, - unfortunately I missed the chat - but has anybody made a note of what was discussed? - If so can the document be published on this thread.

Also, any points for the web site, - currently it looks a bit sad. I need some ideas regarding content, links etc.

Feel free to either post the thoughts here, email me using the email links on www.rx8forum.co.uk (webmaster@rx8forum.co.uk) or send me a PM.

Thanks - lets get this going. - Remember this has cost me money and I would hate to think that its been done for nothing.

Carl (TG) documented everything, and I think he will be circulating it shortly.

Ive sent off an email to the nice people at Mazda to ask for assistance so watch this space.

Nice work with the website so far crabacle, your efforts are appreciated (Didnt you mean to say www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk though :D )

I'll try to come up with some more suggestions.

You spotted the deliberate mistake on the url name.

I have also emailed Mazda, - last Wednesday in fact. - As yet I have had zip response.

Keep me posted.

OK here is a brief run down of the people who attended and the decisions made.

A full transcript is available to those who want it, A full copy of which is now on the way to all who participated last night, and to those of you who PM'd me requesting a copy.

Present:
Druck
TitaniumG
MorganRogers
Oilman
Renegade Si (new dad)
Specman
Murphy
MarkW
Andy Pearce
Copperband
Sixspeed
BlueAdept

Key points.

We start off setting up as a standalone club, BUT, we endeavor to make contact with other clubs and set up links with them.

We will contact Rotary club to discuss links, however we still need to select someone to represent our club in discussions with them.

MarkW to become single point of contact with Mazda UK.

(Modified mission statement)
The Objectives of the RX-8 owners club UK are -
To encourage continued use and enjoyment of the MAZDA RX-8 sports car through safe driving and encourage social meetings, gatherings and events for the benefit of the membership.
To foster a close club spirit through social contact, offering help and advice to all members.
To keep members informed of all RX-8 Owners Club activities through the publication of a regular newsletter.
To maintain a close liaison with other clubs and Mazda Cars (U.K.) Ltd. to ensure a free exchange of information and ideas.

Renegade Si to contact MX-5 owners club for ideas and info.

The club image will aim to match the aspirational level of the car owners, we will investigate other sites and select what we think works best, we will also check with Mazda about using official logos etc.

We attempt to get Mazda to put us in touch with all RX-8 purchasers (aware of Data Protection issues).
If not we try to do this through the Dealer network...
Use the ProDrive events to advertise club and get new members.

<-- cursed by the decorating gods for the next week or so.

And the innerweb is switched off at work, all apart from this website, so keep me sane please!

RX-8 club sounds good to me so far.

So long as we have regular meets, in the best, most luxourious country hotels we can find!

How bout group bookings for that then ?

(still planning lakes/scotland break if/when I get rotary power)

I had a quick reply from Mazda today to my email regarding the owners club, and another request for delivery info. I have suggested we follow up with a phone conversation at a convenient time.

It seems that the fate of the owners club now rests in Deby's hands......

"hope you had a nice holiday - we are very busy here and a letter will be going out this week advising that the dealers systems are now having cars showing up with dates in the system - however they will not all show up at once and will take a week or so to complete as it will happen gradually. "

"Your dealer should be able to see a date in the system in due course (your's may already be there) and this should reflect delivery into the dealership.
However please bear in mind a pre-delivery inspection will need to take place and may mean that the car won't be available on that precise date.

Deby will have to come back to you on the owners club stuff in due course and will discuss what you guys want to do. "

I posted this in the delivery news section as well.

Cheers
Mark

Mark,

Do you read that as a YES, NO or MAYBE?

C'mon use your charm, must try harder.

We know you want an RX8 Owners Club Mazda so come on and give us a hand to make the numbers worthwhile.

Sounds like my old school report , but give me a chance eh .

I have had some more positive feedback today which I will email to everyone that was on Carl's circulation list later.

Basically they will look at helping us, along the same lines as the other owners clubs they have. They will also look into ways of helping advertising the club as requested.

This is good news indeed, but we must understand they are also very busy and it may take some time to get going.

Cheers
Mark

Is anybody making a list of items for Sundays 'meeting'?

If so can they add 'Register Interest page' on the web site.
