Along with a few of you, Im struggling to make up my mind on colour.

However, the other factor that comes into play is the interior. I have decided I want the leather option (as you also get heated and electric seats with lumbar).

If I go for tit grey or black the only choice is black leather which I am not a big fan of as it makes the interior very dark.

However the velocity red has the two tone interior which is growing on me the more I look at it. As you spend more time looking at the inside of the car than out of it, I think the decision on the interior is just as important.

I have loads of pics of the vel red, and it varies so much depending on the light Im not sure I really know the true colour though.

My first question is what are people opinions of how the red leather will fare over a couple of years, and will it be difficult to clean?

Secondly are there any decent pictures arounds of the black leather interior as I have looked around and can only find one or two distant ones?

What a dilemma!

I saw some large interior images in the 'RX-8 Multimedia - Picture Gallery' section

They are all based on the red, but have been modified on computer. There is a black there, and also one someone has improved with Photoshop.

I think the thread is call 'Interior Pictures' or something like that.

I agree, some of the reds in the pictures look superb and I quite like the red/ black interior (except steering wheel).

One option with black interior is to have the sunroof which would add more light. Having said that I have been in all black interiors and they are rarely too dark, unless all the windows are very small which will then make it a bit clausterphobic especially in 2 seaters will low roofs.

I am stilll waiting for inspiration (from where I don't know).

I am also thinking of getting the windows tinted to a darker shade, which wouldnt help with an all black interior.

Then again, tints always look best on black cars.

Wha cant I get black with the Red/Black interior???

I've ordered the red car with black leather, but now I'm not so sure.

I can't make up my mind whether the red+black leather interior is more 'fun' or whether it's just a bit naff.

If you get just black leather, are the interior panels/steering wheel still red ?

If I go for the vel red (my argument being that it seems to looks darker red when not in direct sunlight being 9 months of the year in the UK) I will go with the black/red interior but black only steering wheel (black/ red steering wheel looks naff and will stain after time) OR black interior with sunroof to brighten things up.

Is it possible to be that specific with the interior colour scheme ?
I haven't been given the option to say whether I want a colour coded steering wheel or not. I agree that an all black steering wheel will wear better.

I would quite like the red interior panels that I have seen, but with all bacl leather seats.

Let me get this right. You can only have body coloured leather if you go with red. the other colours come with all black leather? I would have loved to have seen what a blue rx8 with blue/black leather looked like oh well. (please someone tell me I'm wrong, I like the idea of two-tone leather black/body-coloured match)

At the moment the red car is the only one that can have two tone leather. All others can only have black leather as an option.

This is almost certainly going to change as production ramps up, but that could be much later. I agree that the blue would be nice to see.

But even ignoring that, I still don't see whether you can specify whether interior panels/steering wheel are body coloured or black.

Too much colour looks too fussy.

Honestly speaking, I see that black is WAY overused. A little colour inside would make the whole interior seem fresh and new. Everyday, i see black cars and black leather, too common, and to be blunt, boring. I may be fussy, but I am after a unique car, and if mazda keeps the whole two-tone leather, all the better for unique-ness :D
But back to the original topic, so what if the red leather is a little harder to clean? It looks good and much better than black alone (personal opinion).

I think I've changed my mind on the colour scheme now.

Was going for plain black in a red car.

The 2-tone is growing on me now. Think I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

I agree with the comment that it is a unique car after all, so why not a unique interior. Black's to boring anyway.:p

If you download the BM Intro video, it has a good long look at the black leather interior.

I placed an order for Velocity Red with two tone interior. But the Mazda magazine (unless I misread it) said that the two-tone is only available with Performance Red.
Are these two reds the same, or are there two different reds available at launch?
I think I will visit the dealer tomorrow morning to check that all my order details are correct before the web site goes live on Friday.

There's only the Velocity red. That article was completely incorrect anyway, on other issues.

Good to have a new RX 8 buyer. I think Glen means the Pre order on t'internet is starting on Friday. Any Tom Dick or Harry can order on line. Its been hairy here all week wondering where us pre-orders stand.

It all looks to be cleared up now though

It's really getting a bit stale now considering the amount of information that's out there.

Right, I've amended my order to go for the 2-tone leather interior instead of black.

The black just looked so dark (and I'm not going for a sunroof).

The 2-tone is a 'bit different', but then that's the whole point isn't it ?
