Goodbye TTC

Picking up my tit gret RX8 tomorrow at long last and sold my TTC to Mazda (who sold directly to Audi) for £20.5K, attempts to sell privately having failed as this is the worst time to sell (thank you Mazda) and the market is flooded with TT's.

Also logged on again to the TT forum to say goodbre, not a nice place. The RX8 has a thread on 'Other Marques' and is not liked by TT owners who clearly see this car as a direct threat although some were honest enough to say that the TT ownership has dissapointed and reliability is terrible.

Point being is that the TT site is full of blinkered owners who cannot see beyong their TT, who don't welcome newbies readilty and actually spoil ownership by their constant moaning about the smallest thing, just for the sake of a post.

Hope we don't go down that route.

rael.

hmm. The problem I see with TT's is that they 'look so good' to people who like their styling(which I'm not keen on), but drive relativly poorly because its 'just another VAG parts bin special'.

The TT has never been a performance car, never even aproached 'sports car' like status. Never had respect from any other performance car group - unlike cars like the Civic Type-r which , while factory riced up somewhat, is still a drivers car.

A severe case of style over substance, and probably also owners now knowing that the TT's time is over, on the 'new , exiting car front'. Which it well deserves to be. It has been on sale for almost 5 years now, time for it to move over.

One problem I see with it, as it is such an iconic car, will be any possible model refresh (apart from mechanicaly with the v6).

They could , now, make it an absolute great drivers car (unlikely as its got poor suspension, chassis, to heavy etc), but updating the cars looks will be almost impossible in any significant way.

"Hope we don't go down that route."

Me too, but IMO the RX-8 is a drivers car, and anyone who understands what that is will love any other drivers car.

Sure there will be rivalry, especualy with similar speed/priced cars, but I'm a petrolhead (TM - Ted).

Personaly it doesnt matter to me if its a beat up old alfasud, or a shiney new TVR, rarri, Am or whatever. A car built for driving enjoyment is just that, and IMO the TT fell far short.

Edit 2 : sounds like I'm onto the TT's case. I'm not. Its a great looking car, quick, safe(up to a point), and practical, its just not a purists car - but it wouldnt be with its FWD/4WD system.

I have to say Rob I dont completely agree with you. I too had a TT (although it seems a long time ago having driven a knackered Laguna for 8 weeks!). I thought it was a very complete car. Not quite the "feel" of the RX, due to being a heavier car, and I agree that the steering lacked feel. It was hoever incredibly well put together. Performance of the 225 was plenty (saw 150 out of it - in Germany of course). Never got to the limits of the Haldex on public roads. I was quite lucky, and managed to get 21k for a 2 year old 30k example, which I think was good.

Just looked at the TT forum - any forum will defend their own cars - some responses were "good luck etc". As one person said - the world would be a boring place if we all drove the same cars. I think the RX shouldnt really compare with the TT - given it's 4 seater status...

Just my 2p's worth..

I actually got to love the TT once I had a day out learning how to drive it and what its potential is. But I now think the look is waning and with the small and bigger powererd cars coming alone the market will be flooded.

I liked my TT Quattro. It had good cornering ability, but it wasn't entertaining to drive.

Relative to many other cars, the TT is very good.

I don't think Audi would find it hard to bring out a much better and more advanced TT, but they'd have to push it up the price ladder and put much more into it.

Kev - you should have had one of the very early ones before VAG realised the aerodynamics were really dangerous and stuck that little spoiler on the back. Hard to believe that such a small bit of plastic trim could save you life

Might have done, but I'm an aerodynamicist and I wouldn't understand suspension thingies.

I did. I even got to experience the sick feeling of the car going light in the bum at very high speed on a long downhill curve 180~200km/h. (This was just before my wing and suspension upgrade arrived)

All said, the car looks great outside a cafe :D
