I don't believe it, I've ordered Velocity red, and must admit was expecting a red like the MX-5's Mazda 6 etc, and if that is velocity red in the photos, I may have a problem with it and now after 5 weeks of being chuffed am a bit undecided on the colour.

I really need to see it in the flesh now, this red in these phots is certainly different (or appears to be different) than any other photo I've seen.

How could you be gutted, it's stunning.

Possibly the best colour I've ever seen on any car!

I sincerely hope this is it, any lighter/brighter and its Titanium for me.

Cheers

Oilman - keep in check, there are nicer cars and colours, we just can't afford them.

This red is nice but a bit darker would suit. Certainly any lighter and not for me.

Morganrogers - In one of the reviews I read, perhaps www.4car.uk, one of the thrills was looking out of the front window over the long bonnet and seeing the flared front wings. You will definitely see them.

Im up for the red at the moment. I like the pics you have posted Oilman, but unlike you I would prefer it to be brighter like some of the other pics I have seen.

Im going to call my dealer and ask if he can get some colour swatches for me to see.

There's an interesting write up on this thead of the colours by RXHusker. Both the Red and Titanium sound good.

http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1975

"The velocity red mica is incredible. I don't like red cars but I actually had my dealer on the phone to change my color choice -- I ended up staying with the Titanium but I was really tempted by the red. None of the pictures can really show how this color sparkles. There are gold flakes (mica) in the paint that give it an awesome depth. I took a poll of my 10 buddies at the show and 9 picked the red as the best color. Someone earlier said it looked like candy apple red -- this is close -- candy apple red has a coat of gold under the red - the velocity red has the gold in the top layer itself." :D :D

Sounds wonderful, I think Im becoming ever more set on the Red with Red/Black now.

Me too. It does look very nice (and a lot more distinctive - there are too many silver and grey cars around at the moment).

Just got back from buying a sandwich and had a quick count of the cars parked in the street outside my office. The results:

- 1 red
- 1 green
- 1 black
- 5 blue
- 22 silver or grey metallic

After seeing this picture:

...I'm more undecided than ever.
  • Blue looks good on this car! (Allthough I'm thinking it's a little light..)
  • Yellow is not an option since I'm sick of driving one now
  • Titanium is great, but.....to "grey", would have liked more sparkle.
  • Silver is just plain boring.
  • Red is not an option as I had a car in red color, must try different colors each time! :p
  • Maybe I just safe out and go for black..!?

I agree it looks great in blue and that was my original choice until I saw the launch colours. I'm even thinking about leaving my order until the blue is available, presuambly later this year or early next.

Black is still a no go.

Silver is too common

Grey tit too dark (possibly)

Red too light (possibly).

Between grey and red I think.

Is the red (any red) too obvious in a sport car ie police, vandals etc???

To be honest blue is my favourite colour for cars, I have had more blue cars than any other colour.

However I really do not like the Winning Blue, I just dont think it looks right.

The only colour I like that we are not getting is yellow as I think it really suits the RX8. I just cant see myself living with a yellow car every day.

I dont really get the 'red cars always stopped by police' thing. I think the snooker game thing is a bit of a myth as well. My current car is black (7 points!) and touchwood Ive never been stopped.

At the end of the day, the police will stop cars that drive too fast or dangerously etc not just by the colour.

Simon is right that there are more silver and grey cars on the road than anything else these days. There are also a lot of Reds as red is often a base colour on cheaper cars. However the velocity red seems a bit different to your common or garden red.

I have chosen red mainly because it suits the car but partly because silver and titanium blend into the tarmac background and can be missed be other drivers. Result is more people pulling out in front of you at junctions etc.

Cheers

Hey Rael,

We may all be happy with red at the end of the day as this picture shows, light plays a big part in this particular colour!

note that in that pic the car is equipped with the little "lip"spoiler.
i think i prefer that to the other larger spoilers that have been shown.

I am starting to favour red because of the arguments above. The reds does not seem to be too light in some of the pictures and looks positively dark in others.

We must see that colour if no other!!

I'm sure these pictures show two different colours.

All the earlier pics (inc. the press pack etc) were all of a non-metallic bright red (as per the lower picture). Later pics seem to show a deeper metallic red (which looks a lot nicer IMHO).

I suspect we're just going to have to wait for the dealers to get some samples for us to have a look at.

I think you are correct that light plays a big part with the red, after all it is mica paint.

I think it will look darker under normal light, and under bright lights/sunlight the gold mica will come through to give it a brighter look.

I currently have a black mica car with blue in it. In sunlight when its clean it looks very different.

This picture looks so bright its like a different colour. (I like it though I suspect im in a minority)...

Hey Rael,

Just looked, I like it and the interior. If colour swatch dark enough, it's the one for me.

Cheers

Looks great. One of the main selling point for red may be the interior. I think black may be too dark on its own and this brightens the whole thing up.

Also, nice to see a right hand drive model. Also, that yellow in the background is nice.

I really need to see the red UK spec car in the flesh, but to be honest, when it does come, (assuming I've not seen one before and changed my mind) I'll probably be so relieved and excited, I'll love it anyway.
