No, you misinterpreted my post. I was saying that doing basic drifting in a parking lot isn't difficult and shouldn't be classified as doing donuts or burning out, because it definitely is not either of those. Drifting is drifting regardless of whether it was done by an amateur or a professional.

What I was also saying in my previous post was that it is difficult to practice and get better at drifting, and reach even half the level of those that participate in those pro drifting events. If we all had an endless supply of tires and ten 240s at our disposal, we would all be "pro drifters".

 

First off to the OP. If you wanna drift quit trying to find a CHEAP route to go and do it. Come on your wanting a cheap way to drift your Rx8. Just go sit in a parking lot rev to 9 and dump the clutch. Either way your gonna ruin your car. Go save up 500 buy a 240sx shell. drop 800 on a Sr20. Then go beat the hell out of it and save your rx8 till you learn a little bit. Drifting costs money, i know i used to drift my first Rx8 on the street. New tires every 2 weeks. spending 300+ on Falkens. Sure drifting is fun but it aint a kids sport. Listen to what people are saying. Dont ask for advice or tips when you believe you know all. Enjoy getting reckless driving like me cause its going to happen. Get some brains and go to the local drift day/skid pad events and pratice there, not in a walmart parking lot.

I'm new to the 8's and to RWD and i can admit there are times that i want to just go out in a open lot and just try to drift or just goof off, but being a tech and seeing some of the **** that comes thru our dealer with people trying to be high speed and ******* their cars up, i think twice bout it, i have maybe done a donut here a burn out there but, i agree with DJ on this one just be patient stack up some $$$$ and go to a drift event you will learn more there than you would on the street by yourself. (I'm just saying not trying to bash anyone)

 

Exactly. Play it smart. You wanna have some fun well buy a car that you can afford to beat the **** out of and ruin over time. Unless your have your Rx8 built to drift and actually have Experience drifting. Your going to be doing nothing but making a fool of yourself and ruining your car.

Trust me i know i used to have a BB 2004 Rx8 that i drifted on the street. I blew the transmission from the constant high revs and always needed tires. My new WWP 2005 i will not be drifting till the car is ready to be drifted. But trust me everyday i want to just hit that DSC and throw her Sideways but i know the consequences..

 

i score free tires from the used pile at tire places, and u should definetly look at upgrading the clutch to an act or exedy kit, get a spare set of OEM rims so you always have tires mounted up and good to go. coilovers are a necessity also, they make a night and day difference. and practice when it's wet out. rain=free horsepower when drifting.
