well i just purchased my kit this weekend .. and enjoy the variet of listening so far.. no more 94.5 and 95.3 .. and all the other repetitive stations out there...

its pretty cool since the display on the module matches the orange lights of the car ...

Congrats on your radio! I've had XM in my 8 since May, and have NOT listened to regular radio since. I have the US service, but most of the channels are the same. It makes my commutes so much nicer that I don't have to listen to all the commercial crap.

yea xm is great. unlimited variety. The only thing it is missing is the AOL sessions on xm which is the live acoustic stuff, that you can get on the online version.

What was funny ron and fez when they were talking about the canadian prime minister and how he was talking back. Then the jesting back and forth and became a US vs Canada thing with what Canada invented and what not. It was pretty funny.

 

I heard that there's a monthly fee for xm, is that right?

I haven't listened to the radio in ages, too much bantering and useless garbage.

 

I bought it also . I want to wire it to the main power source unstead of using the liter. I'm looking at putting in the ash tray area. It's easy to hide when I park the car. Just close the lid

 

I briefly thought about sat radio but couldnt justify the monthly fee.
Add the Ipod nano I am getting for x mas but am not supposed to know about (shhhh!), I will have my own commercial free music with no monthly fees.

 

i was concerned about the monthly fee too.. but then i heard that satelilte radio is still in its infancy and its going to expand...and you live life once id rather listen to the music i want than the usual ***** on normal radio..and $13 aint gonna dent the wallet really, its less than a dollar a day to listen to allday TEchno/ hip hop/ comedy etc..


anyways was wondering where did you guys put the satelite receiver? .. i put it on the trunk closest to the rear window and the imprinted antenna.. ran the wire through the trunk..

iwant to hard wire the module since you get better sound quality and i dont have to worry about wires running accross the car and stick the base where the MP3 player would be.. for ease of use... i uses my steering wheel controls for volume anyways..

 

I subscribe to Dishnetwork sat tv which includes the Sirrus radio channels.
Honestly , although it is commercial free, you still have no choice in what songs they play.
I tunes in around the house, while working out etc. It just didnt do it for me.
I do not listen to "free" sat radio, so there is no way I could ever pay for it.
Get an Ipod, load up your music, and go.
In lieu of the monthly fee, you could buy 13 songs a month from Itunes.

Sat radio is still in it's infancy.
My prediction:
Ipods, and all the other mp3 players will destroy sat radio.
They will get smaller, more storage, and cheaper.
Add to this napster.ca now gives you the option of a 15 dollar a month subscription that allows you UNLIMITED music downloads to your mp3 player.
Load up the ipod with 15,000 songs.
Bored already? No problem, dump em and get some more.
Sat radio and ipods are the same idea, compact, portable etc, but the ipod gives you way more control and choice.

I was never fond of Apple and the proprietry nature of overpriced hardware they sell.
Many of the other mp3 players offer more value, and 3rd party compatability.
But I must say for ease of use (ipod, and software), Apple really does it the best.

I really like my new black ipod nano.

My wife says once you go black, you never go back! I hope she is refering to the ipod.

 

I’ve been wondering about the sat radio and I am interested in getting one. I also have a Ipod Nano that is stacked with my favorite music. I noticed that the OEM radio has a sat button and what looks like a plate under the CD insert for accessories. Does this mean that it is ready for the monthly payment with Xm?? Do you need additional hardware purchases? Are there kits for the Ipod direct connect to the radio. If that's the case, is there a kit someone can recommend. Pictures of a pre-installed hardware would be nice.

There was an available Sirius upgrade available, sisiously overpriced, and as it seems discontinued since I coldn't find any at dealers in Canada. But there is a great built in kit with XM radio and an iPod adapter available, and it uses stering whhel/radio controls and the built in disple for both XM and iPod!!!! I'll get one soon.

 

I used to think the same thing until I got a XM radio myself. There are benefits to good radio programming that a MP3 player could not replace. You hear new music that you would not have known otherwise, the DJs select the best tracks from an album so there is no dud, and there is a sense of flow and continuity to the music if the DJ is any good.

I used to listen to a lot of college radio before the whole MP3 and stealing music thing took off. It was great because you never ever hear the same song twice. When MP3 became popular, I like everyone else amassed a huge collection of MP3s and stopped listening to radio. XM got me back into radio listening big time.

My XM radio works like a PVR. You set it to record music in the middle of the night, then during the day you can listen and skip like a MP3 player. So really I'm paying someone to load new music into my MP3 player via satellite. It's totally worth the $15 I pay, and I have over a terabyte worth of MP3s so it's not like I have no music to listen to.
