Just give me a time and a place to show up. If we're doing it at Scotty's, even better since he's got all the tools nessasary to do all the work.
For sure not this Sat. It's Father's day weekend. But I'm good on weekdays next week or the next weekend.
It's minor work, but still work. For a person who hasn't done it before, it might seem a bit too much work, for others not so much. It really depends on how comfortable you are at dissembling components from your car.

And yes, getting parts up here in Canada is ridiculous. Yes it's 2-3 times more expensive than getting it at the States. Even if you were to ship them to a US address, taking the time to head to the border, cross it, and then pray to God the border ****'s don't catch on, it's really a huge hassle.

If anyone can get the plugs, coils and wires for $260, you're well ahead of the curve.
So far I got a quote only for the plugs directly from the dealer through my contact. Who always gives me a discount for OEM parts. That's why I nearly fell over when I heard the plugs were going to run $254 out the door. Insane!

If Scotty can get you a set for $80, I'd jump on it.

So it's official then? Meet up to give people a break down on how to change plugs and what not?

When you work on an FD, everything else is a cake walk.

Besides, I've had to help and witness many upgrades for both the Rx-8 and my miata. Doing plugs, coils and wires is easy as pie. Especially when you have all the tools like Scotty has.

Don't be fooled by American pricing. They might state the price for the plug, but then you have to worry about shipping/handling, conversion rate, and then all the hidden fees which balloon the price of the actual item up to where the dealer is selling them. Shop carefully.

Aren't you getting the set off Scotty anyways?

It's been awhile since the gang got together. Would be a good excuse to make a meet out if it.

My 2008 RX-8 has just over 50000 km and I'm also looking at replacing the coils and plugs, any recommendations on where to order them from to avoid these hidden fees and minimize duty? The Mazda dealer in Brampton quoted be something like $380 for plugs of which only $65 was labor, sounds like huge markup on the plugs which I'd prefer to avoid by buying my own.

A couple more general questions on this topic which I searched for but didn't find answers for:

a. Should the wires also be replaced at the same time when I replace the coils and plugs or is it safe to re-use them?

b. I looked at ordering from RotaryFX, they have coils for $40 but then also have the Mazda boxed OEM coil for $65. Is there any difference between the two, I don't mind paying more if the OEM one is likely to be more reliable, just not sure if they are actually the same or the only difference is the box. The other reason I'm asking about this is some places on Amazon and EBay have coils for sale but again wondering if there is a difference buying coils from these locations versus the OEM ones Mazda sells.

c. I also looked at this kit on Amazon that others referenced in some other threads, anyone tried ordering from these guys in Canada and any issues with duty and extra fees?

Go with the BHR ignition kit, contact Charles and he will ship to Canada no problem.
Pretty straight forward install, I did em in my driveway in about 30 mins.

Some other 8 owners said after installing the BHR ignition kit, they keep getting misfire in high rpm range.

I plan to just get the OEM ignition set from Mazmart. They have the latest OEM ignition coils there (Version C for Spirit R RX-8).

I considered that unfortunately he's not shipping until 22 July and with vacation and everything else going on this summer I would prefer to get them sooner then that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Wow!
I guess things have changed from the old days.

At least I know there are still hardcore members in the group who do get together most Fridays.

Have fun with your install.

I would replace all of them at the same time.

I did this through Amazon last year. It was $270.00 to my door for coils (Beck/Arnley) and plugs. Import fees were already added when i placed the order and came through USPS. New plug wires from ExoticSpeed for about $60.00 (NGK ZE81). It was almost double these prices through NAPA... rediculous.

Had no issues for a year so far (10k) although i just ordered the BHR ignition.

Take care.

Leesha.
On page 2 you were inviting someone to the 'meet'.... now you're being kinda rude to neo for wondering when the get together is.
Am I missing something?
Btw. I have done 3 frame off resorations. None were a rotary, does that make me not qualified to change spark plugs in an rx8?
Lol

Neo didn't have to take the time to source out parts for you.
Much more than I would have done.

I do not know Neo.... just an opinionated by stander

I'm not mad at Neo. I appreciate his help just want the work to be done & not turned into such a big event.

Like I said I will let him know when I'm ready. If its just to tune up no need to have a million people there.

Btw I don't care what anyone know or does with other cars. My choice is to have it fixed by someone who's worked on an 8 before. I can have the men in my life fix my **** if that was the case!!

Wickson,

Where abouts are you? No location under your name.
What kind of restors have you done? Let me know through PM.

Don't want to derail this thread.

Leesha,

That's cool. You know how to find me.

If you don't like negative input don't post **** on forums.
I'm not jealous at all. Everything about this thread makes me laugh.
The title: Who wants to do my spark plugs? Not, can someone help me with my plugs?
Then you get a guy like Neo who offers to do everything other than give you his first born child and you shoot him down because he doesn't drive an RX8!
Then after a few weeks you post up that you've got the plugs and expect someone to jump all over doing them for you.
I'm sure someone on this forum will do these for you, there are many nice guys on this forum. Unfortunately there are also many pathetic guys that will jump at a chance that you may pat them on the head if they help you.

Personally, if I was any of the guys that said they would help you, especially Neo, I would tell you to go F yourself and pay a mechanic to do it since you obviously don't really appreciate the help.
