When to put on the Winter Tires - Calgary?

To those who live in Calgary,

1. When is a good time to put on the Winter Tires with the crazy weather patterns we always get in Calgary?

2. How harmful is it to drive with Winter Tires on dry pavement?

Hey dude, I put mine on late Sept last year because we had snow. This year though...I wouldn't worry about it until it snows and sticks. Could be next week...could be next month

About driving on dry pavement...tires have a wear rating so it all depends on the tires. I would check out tirerack to read the ratings and reviews of the tires that you're getting. Example: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....inter+Sport+M2

I agree with khtm -- once the snow sticks, I'll put them on. But man, I can already feel the difference in the summer tires in the early morning hours, when the temperature's just above zero. Feels like I'm driving on hexagons!

Heh ... I think that I put them on around mid to late Nov of last year. Yes pushing it to the last moment (which may not necessarily be "SMRT").

Admiral did you fix that scratch?

Not yet, I'm suppose to go into the body shop at the end of October to get it done.
SAITs autobody was too busy. I didn't feel like waiting in line.
