Talking New RX-8 owner

Pickup up my 2004 silver GT 6MT (previously owned) Sept 29 and took it on a road trip to Montreal. The trip was great and I love this car.
Thanks for all of the information available on this site!

What do you call hot?

The trip is about 550 km (340 miles) each way with a few food and gas stops.
The entire car gets warm (kind of heat soaked) on a long trip; you can feel it from the engine, along the tunnel, in the trunk and of course in the cup holders. (Gas tank recall done before the trip)

As mentioned elsewhere in this site the gauges don't reflect what you can feel in the car. They never seem to move after warmup.

The car was great on the trip; comfortable, reliable, fun and fast. BTW, I did not burn a noticable amount of oil and mileage was around 11.5 l/100km

Welcome to the family. I used to live in Ghettovale right on Lake Aquitaine :-P

Good times, good times.

Congrats on your ride!

DarkBrew, welcome to the club. You'll be happy even though you chose the slowest colour. Wave when you see a red 8 and I'll wave back, because that will probably be me.

By the way, your first order of business hsould be to get a winter tire/rim set up if you plan to drive during the winter and not wrap the beautiful silver 8 around a pole.

If you need a deal, let me know and I'll give you a link.

Cheers.

Ha ha. My silver has chrome wheels which make it faster that any red

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking at Tiretrends trying to decide how much money to part with for 17" wheels and some winter rubber.
Please send me any other info.

Here is a link to recent inquiry on the winter tire set up.

https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/what-kind-snow-tire-you-have-74192/

And if you want a deal in Mississauga, here is a link to what I purchased last year and the deal details. They sold about another dozen sets to RX8 owners who used the link. I am pretty sure they would honour the same deal again. This might be a good reference for you. Be smart, shop early before they run out of rims like they did last year by late Oct.

Thanks!

My in-laws used to live in Milton.
I understand the Ghettovale reference. I live in the Millers Grove area and my RX stays in the garage.

Welcome to the Boards. You'll love the 8. Especially once you get to know all the gas station employees around your house. LOL

Dark Brew, don't listen to Bio, he's been in the slammer for 11 days now and he's only allowed one post per day from his cell. He's a conn and misleading you. Red is fastest, this is a fact. But it still OK that you got silver. 2nd best ain't all that bad. Mind you I wouldn't know that for sure as red 8's never finish in anything but 1st.

Hey, you got to come out to next week's mini meet. Its on Thursday night. Someone will post a time and location. Usually, up @ 400 & 7.

Congrats again.

Where was I? I was watching you slip the operator a $20 bill to help your numbers. I don't miss anything Dan Besides, do you know how I did? You are very quiet when it comes to that part of the day. Well if you didn't see it, it would have shocked you. I was the only 8 "Bone Stock" to register over 200 hundred HP at the wheels. I mean, 206 hp at the rear wheels wasn't that great for a car that claims to have 238HP, but it was the top mark that day. That's why I can speak confidently that Red 8's were, have always been, and will continue to always be the fastest production colour for the 8. It would not surprise me that the tweak on the Red 8's are done at the factory . Afterall, its easier to tweak a few select red 8's than to de-tune the mass production of silvers and other inferior/slower colours. Red is the 8's natural colour. :D

True. Sorry about that.

By the way, you must have read the SRT-4 thread which was hijacked by a guy (guy321 to be exact) who was obsessed with Penises (or is it Penii). Now it seems we got a trend going on when somebody want to get their point accross they repeat it 50 times or so!

Enjoy the silver, its a beauty.

OMG can't believe i only noticed this thread now.

1. Darkbrew, congrats on your 8. You will enjoy it.
2. Don't intend to hijack but while you are new to the cult it is important to know the facts. Red's are for sure faster. They were made that way from the beginnig. It's nothing to be ashamed of, Silver's are pretty but they are dead slow and they crash I have heard.....:D

:p With reaction times like your's the red must seeeeeem fast :p

Opinions may vary by colour selected...

Besides, I would need to see a statistically significant scientific study supporting your claims.

Thanks for the welcome.
