Usa warranty good in canada?

Evening all,

This is my first post here as I am currently looking to buy the 09 rx-8-- damn it looks nice. With the dollars being at par right now it is way cheaper to buy cars in the states and import them as many people are doing.

Question: is the warranty for mazda usa good in canada? Are there any parts that need to be altered or added when importing, such as an immobilizer?

Thanks for the help!

As far as I know, the "immobilizer clause" stops all Canadians from buying new cars in the US That is newer than 2007.

Anything older than 2007 can be imported if it's on the list but you need to change the daytime running lights. The spedometer can be changed from MPH to KM/H with a click of a button.

I am 99% sure the warrantee is not transferable.

Why not just call Mazda Canada and ask them. They probably know best, being Mazda and all.

^ yep.

Though I'm 99% sure Mazda wouldn't honor a US warranty.

Differences? Air pressure sensors are on the US cars, headlight washers are on Canadian GT's. That's it I think. Oh, and ours are smarter.

Another difference is that Canadian models don't have the tire pressure monitoring system in the wheels.

I was planning on importing a RX-8 from the states but I got a good deal on a Canadian model.

The warranty is valid, contact mazda North America if you dont believe me as I did as well.

The only issue is as follows:

The dealer cannot look up your VIN number in the database to determine when your "in service" date was so technically they can't tell if you are covered under warranty.

What a Canadian dealer will do is either hold your car and contact Mazda North America to ensure you car is under warranty or bill you and reimburse you when Mazda North America confirms that you are still under your warranty period.

Edit:

Just re-read your post

You thinking about importing a 2009 RX-8? The 2008 Rx-8 aren't even in the dealerships yet are they?

I have an American RX-8 here in Toronto. And I can tell you, my warranty is valid, plus I got mine extended just like the Americans did. So ya, 100% guranteed. Well mine for at least. I've had my water pump, and motor mounts replaced under warranty.

YES YES, you are 100% right....

Mazda is one of the manufactures that honors their warranty NORTH-AMERICA WIDE... even Mexico.

When I worked at Mazda, we used to service US RX8s from other used car lots all the time!!

As long as you can provide a valid registration of the vehicle ie ownership, any Mazda dealership will warranty the vehicle once they send the claim into Mazda Canada and gets approved!!

are you serious? wait, let me read my user manual again. i think we do have it unless my brain has been washed by some US discussion.... cuz i have placed the order of wheels and tires but i didnt order TPMS from them but on the website they showed that the vehicle comes with TPMS. so then i went to mazda and asked them how much they are. they didnt even tell me that my rx8 doesnt have TPMS ( well, i didnt ask if it does or not).

i am still confused...

Phil, we don't have TPMS.

Its only on American vehicles.

Your manual might give information on it but we do not have TPMS. (I'm assuming that you haven't imported your vehicle from USA)
