thinking of trading my 8 for a 2010 ms3
#27
Get rid of the 8, you will have alot more power in the 3 and the fuel economy is amazing compare to the 8. NEVER EVER buy an aftermarket turbo for the 8!! the car will never be the same with a turbo on it. yes, you will have more power, but power delivery will not be as smooth, and drivablity will be awful!! There a reason why MAZDA didnt install a turbo on the 8.

I sure hope you are not basing some skidpad number on two different cars likely performed at two different areas at two different climates to be any indication of a car's handling prowess.... And I am unsure where you find 0.89g for the rx8. THe last I check was an R&T article with the Z, s2k and rx-8 with the 8 pulling ..91g. All it tells me is grip.
My folks just got a 2010 3 hatch. It's nice. But it's nowhere quick. Mazdaspeed3 version should be. The new one with 148hp and 175hp is spritely. No where does it have the sublime finesse of the rx-8.

For starters the base car is quick, and the chassis and suspension pulls 0.84G in the corner. Compare that to the RX8's 0.89G (stock of course) in the corner. Things aren't looking so cut and dry anymore, when the medium grade Mazda car starts pulling numbers like their top sports car.
Let's not forget about the 2010 M3 price, or it's sick fuel consumption (or in this case lack there off) I'm sorry.... but I have to admit, Mazda made a great upgrade to the old Mazda 3... in fact.... it drives more like a sports car, then it drives like the old Mazda 3.
I'm really upset about this! because if the 2010 Mazda 3 comes out with a turbo upgrade *Cringe* it'll have performance numbers like the RX8 or better. I'm even more upset.... that if... (like you) trade my 8 for a 3, then I'm compromising my loyalty to my beautiful car, for a much much much less beautiful car with a ghastly smile.

I can guarantee you the MS3 is going to be nowhere near as fun to drive because look, 3 words, wrong wheel drive.
I would keep at as a daily driver maybe because of the ok fuel economy, but I wouldn't trade my eight for it.
If you don't know that expression, please sell your car and go buy something else. Many people here have turbo's and the car runs great, as mysql, he loves the turbo and ask all those people who are supercharged.
Stop being ignorant that: Since Mazda didn't put a turbo on the Engine it can't handle it. Look at all those B16 engines that are turbo'd and they run great, people even use them for day to day use.
There is an icon on the top right, that says : SEARCH, please use that, im sure it will help you.

Talking my *** off? Unlike you I pulled 280whp with the turbo at the end. Btw I had a test pipe on car for 2 days, that was the max that I could deal with it. The car sounded like ****. Rode like it was about to fall apart, Not to mention the smell

The point is however that because your attempt at turbocharging the car resulted in a very poorly running car that is not indicative of the platform. It means your setup isn't working. I have no idea what your setup is/was but a stock GReddy kit especially with Emanage or Int-X is not going to result in a clean setup. Almost everything included in the GReddy kit is junk and piggyback or interceptor EMS options are going to result in more unpredictable behavior.
The power delivery and driveability of the car do NOT need to be sacrificed when adding a turbocharger. Mazda didn't make the car stock turbocharged for lots of reasons, but not a single one of them is because the engine/car can't handle it. Don't assume because you failed at reliably turbocharging the car it can't be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

mikefrombarrie had a turbo but WAY before the AP, thus his opinions match his piggyback used. But his opinions do not match today's turbo 8's.
for what its worth i really do love the new MS3 and am thinking the same as the OP.
