I buy 245/40/18 Hankook RS3 at $170 a rim you can have them mounted for under $800 and they are great for Autorcoss and track.
If you want something with less aggressive on the tread wear Hankook also do the V12 that will last a lot longer and very popular with the track guys for there Daily Drivers.

Thanks for all the responses and help.

I am close to made my decision - Some says comp2 is way better but its like 3lbs heavier than DW. Also, it is more geared towards muscle cars.

Sumitomos ZIII 225/45/18 are back on sale at Tiretrends. I was smarter this time and placed my order immediately. I would have loved to get 245/40/18, but this is too good to pass up. $122 each, $11.50 shipping each, plus tax. $603 all in. Now I just have to learn how to use my princess auto tire changer and wheel balancer.

I owe you one footman.

My saga continues, they called me and it turns out they only have 2 tires left. They're also ~2 years old. They were good enough to refund my order.

Ended up buying Sumitomo ZIIIs from Tire Rack 245/40/18. I think I've got the tire changer technique down, but that's with tires with a larger sidewall. Won't be mounting them for around a month.

hey guys

also in the market for some summer tire replacements for my stock RE040's.

I've seen some decent deals online but living in a condo, having 4 tires shipped is a bit problematic , but wondering if there are any stores in the GTA that also stock them? I got my Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires at Superior Tire in Mississauga years ago.

If you have trouble finding what you want locally, you could try www.tiremonkey.com which ships to a local shop where you will go for the installation. Shipping is no additional charge. The aforementioned Sumitomo ZIIIs are $199 each from there.

Hey Gents,

I thought I would throw in an update to this thread in case anyone was thinking about getting summers for 2014. Similar to DaddG, I sold my house and I am now in a condo so ordering logistics have changed from the past.

ContinentalExtremeContact DW @174 per tire = $696.00
245/45ZR18XL 100Y B

Include TPMS Rebuild Kit @$5 per tire = $20
$25 Online Order Savings -$25.00
UPS Standard Shipping (ship 4-10 business days) FREE

Prepaid Canadian Tarriff Fees $160.00

Total for Delivery is $851.00

Add in $18.95 per Tire for installation at Limitless Tires (still looking for a better deal....$15 per tire) but they are very close to my condo.

Looking at $931.00. No mail in rebate listed on discounttiresdirect

If anyone has a better deal, let me know

Henry

Track tires are very much for the track. If you attempt to live with them for daily duty, you will live to regret it.

I'm looking at Bridgestone RE11A's for my FD. I should be ordering them by mid-april or so. Hopefully the weather would be better by then.

If you can find deals on the Yokohama AD08 on clearance, do it. I did the same when they were clearing out the AD07 for the AD08. These will go 35k until the cord shows.

And to Neo's note, just ask me for experience regarding Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 as a daily drive tire....

We have a set on her MazdaSpeed Protege. She really likes them actually. But, the car doesn't get a ton of miles. It's not exactly our choice for road trips anyway.

To add to Footman's comments, I would never run Dunlop tires. I've had 3 bad experiences with those tires, on 2 different vehicles, and those vehicles came with those tires stock!
I immediately changed them out when I knew they were trying to kill me!!

I run only Bridgestone's. I took a look at Michelin's for a bit... but something about running on a French tire on a Japanese car kinda makes me cringe a bit.

The S-04's are definitely a daily driver type of tire. Just 1 notch below the RE11A's. Great tire! I run it on the Miata. I did run the first gen RE11's on the Miata when they first came out. They were an awesome tire. But they're life expectency was not up to daily driving duty. So I went 1 below to the S-04's. Grip is only slightly decreased (and we're only talking slightly here) and they get better mileage.

The RE11A's are better suited to your "play-toy" car. The FD rarely sees 3-4K a season.

P.S. The RE11's I did run on the Miata gave up after 30-40k on the clock. Not too bad!

Really?! I've been doing some research on them and they seem good.

I'll be using it off and on the track. I'm doing some major upgrades to the fd so i need some sticky tires to hold me on the track, and take me home after lol

Other tires I have in mind are:
-Yokohama AD08
-Hankook Rs3
-Toyo RA1
