Summer tires suggestion?

Tire reviews (everybody from tirerack)
http://missiontires.com/Tire_Reviews.html

I need new summer tires.

a) I got R1 on stock rims (maybe 1 more season on those)
b) I need a good summer tire for normal use with following priority
1. Economical (both price, weight, wear)
2. Grip
3. Comfort

Any suggestions?
1) Connti ExtremeContact DW
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

2) BFG g-Force™ Sport COMP-2™
http://www.tirereview.com/Article/97...on_target.aspx

What else??

Thanks a ton!!!

I just got the Continental ExtremeContact DW on my car from Simply Tire and wrote a review of them in the Wheels section you can find with a search. I'm happy with them so far as a daily driver tire. I also considered the Yokohama S.Drive, Hankook V12 and the Bridgestone RE760.

Try COSTCO. If you don't autocross or have a need for high performance tires like the Star Specs you will find a great price on the right tire size.

Here are Tire Racks dry/wet autoX times from different tire comparisons ("Max Performance"). You can't compare times directly between tests, but you can use the relative differences in each result to compare tires together. I'm probably going to go with the Sumitomo ZIIIs because of the price. I'm intrigued by the new BFGs, but I don't know if there will be a test before I need replacements.

Dunlop Sport Maxx TT 30.92/32.61
Hankook V12 31.57/34.12
Kumho LE Sport 31.07/33.49
Sumitomo ZIII 30.78/33.41

RE50A 30.17/32.64
ContiSportContact 3 30.07/32.07
ZIII 29.9/32.44
Yoko Avan sport 30.18/32.05

ContiSporContact 3 29.34/31.0
Dunlop sport maxx TT: 29.31/30.61
Pirelli Pzero Rosso: 29.52/31.32
Yoko Avan Sport: 29.57/31.07

RE50A: 30.09/32.21
ContisportContact 3: 29.89/31.50

So on top of that you're gonna pay for mounting/balance right?

$1000 is very generous, lots of options.

maRs got her Continential Extreme Contact DW for $803!
stock size, shipped to her door, no extra fees.

I still think the Toyo Proxes T1R is one of the best bang for the buck Summer performance tires out there.

Michelin's are very nice but too pricey for this vehicle imho.

I decided on Continental Extremecontact DW for my car. My reasoning was that I wanted something that was more streetable than trackable. Plus I wanted something that performed very well in the rain. Asides from the very expensive Michelins, the Conti's are seen as one of the best wet-weather perofrmance tires. My next choice would be the Toyo T1r's. I think either of these tires are a great street tire, but they can also handle regular auto-x and even the occaisional track day.

I think you'll be fine with any major tire brand....
Michelin/Dunlop/Continental, all are major sponsors in one or more race events... you'll be fine Kafka.

But like I said.. Conti DW's on sale right now.. $803 all in + $65 mail-in rebate. You can't beat that in Canada. I stress the IN CANADA PART because US pricing is almost always cheaper for everything so don't compare!

Thanks all...I am leaning towards Conti extremeDW for the price, weight, and wet performance factor.

Still have my R1 on stock rims for one more season oh well...

I think I need to do my coils/plugs too...so price is of great importance doh!!

I compare DW and DWS, for dry condition DW is excellent... but if the wet condition, DWS is better than DW

If I price out Tire Rack on the Continental DWs they are a good deal $159 for 225/45/18 or $203 for $245/45/18. Sumitomo ZIIIs are $139 for 225/45/18 and $143 for 245/40/18. Both work out to ~$600-800 plus 200 for shipping, brokerage, etc. Then there are taxes.

Tire monkey is an interesting site I've been playing with. It's local suppliers of tires. The ZIIIs are $800 there, which is the same price as tire rack.

I'm very curious about these Continental deals. Where are the continentals on for ~$800? US Mail in rebates don't normally apply here.

Oi... we need to dim sum at some point in the next couple of weeks dude!

I'm in the same boat Josh.. I'm still damn impressed with how the KDW's have held up over the course of time but at the same point... they're just so damn loud.

^ Yes, please share how we can all enjoy this kind of pricing. However, I'm probably most interested in 245/40/18. I did read what was written, but why are you being so vague about how we can obtain this kind of pricing?

For the Continental DW they do have a pretty amazing price $165.77 per tire (plus the aforementioned $65 rebate) for 225/45/18, shipping is ~$12/tire. 245/40/18s are $239.95. Sumitomo 225/45/18 are $121.99 and they don't list 245/40/18. At those prices I'm very tempted to go with the stock tire size.

It's a very interesting site. Some of their pricing is merely competitive, while some of it is incredible.

I'm really not sure what this means. The tires can only cost a % of value of the vehicle or something?

Anyway, I picked up my 245/40/18 Pilot Super Sports today to replace my cycled-out PS2s.
But, for daily driver tires, that Conti deal Footman posted seems hard to beat.

Grr Tire Trends changed their price on the Sumitomos the are now $201.95 per. Continentals have increased too! I should have ordered them when I had the chance.
