yeah I was pretty sure I'd feel silly telling them the internetz told me to do this.... so I mentioned to the service manager that my car makes this noise near red line and that it sounded like this issue that I read on the rx8 forum and asked him what he thought. he asked me to send him the URL and part # which I did and a few days later he emailed back saying they would take care of it.

^...............RX8Club FTW!
Hopefully it will take care of your issue, but be advised...............apparently it doesn't work in all cases.

Update: So I took the 8 to Markham Mazda today and a few hours later they called saying that they couldn't put in the restrictor because the (now excuse my lack of technical terms) hose they are putting the restrictor in isn't compatible. They are using the parts diagram I took from the thread on this forum and the service manager was saying it's likely an American diagram so hes ordered a new hose as well to fit the valve.

Footman, you were saying you're taking yours to Scarboro right? I guess make sure they know that its possible you might need another part on top of the restrictor... it might be a series I and II difference or like the service manager was thinking, maybe a US / Canada difference ?

Haven't heard of any issue fitting between Canadian and US models. Seems strange...........they sure they are attemping to put it here?

Here's the diagram however this is for a RHD car.

Other data found and pasted from the other thread!

F100-61-E09 Orifice, Heater Hose
My EPC (RHD) says it is used in S1 RX-8, FD RX-7, 07 Mazda 2 Diesel, 02-07 Mazda 6 Diesel...in the heater hose areas.

The "orifice" is installed inside the Heater Hose that supplies Coolant to and inside under dash Heater Core (Radiator), see parts pic above (red) that is the small orifice that your dealer fitted.
The Hose "end" in question slides onto the metal Outlet on the Thermostat Housing near the bulk head or firewall.

As I said the Initial 30,000 03-04 RX-8's had them factory installed, AFTER Dec 1st 2004, they ceased to put the orifice in ANY RX-8's.

At this stage it is not a TSB because Mazda are only rectifying cars in which owners complain about....

Yay, it's something my early 8 already has installed.
Hopefully it's a fix for you guys, I heard it in a FD years back and the owner almost teared up in embarassment.

Yeah that was the diagram they whipped out - the service manager was pointing to the hose where the valve was supposed to go in (61-212?) and said when they tried to put it in it wouldn't sit in there properly. lol I really hope these guys know what they're doing... I'm supposed to go back next weekend for round 2.

I am also getting the MIAC noise too. I have the 09 R3. Let us know if they fix it and how did you mention it. I just hate visiting dealership.

Just discovered this thread now. If a mechanic says "why are you redlining?" ... just get in your 8 and go somewhere else! I don't care what the Service Advisor said ... this guy does not know the RX-8!

This reminds me of a Mr Transmission commercial where the show some stupid mechanic pushing a broom saying "I always wanted to fix a transmission!"

But this (so called) mechanic is saying "Duuuuuh! Why are you redlining it? Duuuuuh!"

Listen ... If they don't know a rotary engine ... go to someone that does. I would expect that any mechanic not to take your word for proper diagnosis from an internet source, but knowledge is power ... power to the RX8Club.com! At least if you have done research here and asked some questions you will be able to talk more intelligently with the Service Advisor and the Mechanic ... hence ... they will take you more seriously!

Booo to Markham Mazda!

Oh sorry for not following up - but essentially Markham Mazda managed to **** me off again so I've just ceased going back completely. I was scheduled to go in for an oil change (which I booked a week in advance) where I was going to get the MIAC fix at the same time. So I show up on the day for the oil change only for them to tell me that they don't actually have any oil filters in stock and was told to reschedule again -__-"

Instead I just grabbed the oil filter from them a week later and got my mechanic friend to change my oil - Markham Mazda never called me back regarding the parts for the MIAC (a new hose plus the valve restrictor) - so presumably its still sitting in their parts dept.

MC8jai, are you planning to get the fix? If so let me know where you go and if they seem more competent than these guys lol.

Scoot RX-8, I'm definitely taking my 8 to another dealership for its next service date (avante, scarboro, agincourt?). I can't really comment on how good they are in general but its clear to me now that they really are not RX-8 friendly.

Amen to that! If you planned ahead for service to be done ... why can they not plan ahead to do service?

As for your parts sitting at the dealership ... don't be so sure of it. Sounds like they do not have a handle on good service ... probably do not plan for a lot of items to be ordered. They probably write everything down instead of using the system to order and set up service at the time you are asking. I don't know.

I have dealt with Scarboro Mazda last year and was treated well at that time (yah Al !!), but that was then and I have not heard anything good since then. But who knows ... probably better than Markham simply because of the way things were set up by Al previously. I mean, they must have left some things alone.

My car is sitting over at Whitby Mazda waiting for a new engine (I know that is too far for you, just saying). I had it towed there even though it was right beside Ajax Mazda as they have a bad rep too! From what I heard about Scarboro lately ... and not having heard anything of Whitby ... I thought I would take my chances! So far they have really treated me respectfully! They have been very good with pushing for an engine replacement even though I have no oil receipts ... https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/my-8-died-last-night-195473/

The work still needs to be done so I am in no position to judge them yet. But if they care about their work as much as they have cared for me so far, then this may be the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Lol!

Good luck finding someone to service your 8 somewhere near you.

Markham Mazda is run by douches. They charged me for diagnostic and wouldn't credit it back when they found out the car was under warranty. They were baffled the car had a digital odo/speedo.That service manager, Stephen is a douche. They actually charged me labour to put on 4 wheel lock nuts, even though they said it would be free.

Agincourt is the official dealership for Toronto Mazda 3, I went by there last year, and they assured me my 8 would have no problems going up on their lifts since its lowered. They said their equipment blows away Scar Mazdas. My 8 was almost tipped off the lifts. Never going back there again.

Avante is far, but there is a Service Advisor there who has an 8. One of my friends who got his car there, and the extended warranty got treated like crap there.

Mazda of Toronto is not bad, just time consuming for warranty work.

Stick to Scar Mazda or Mazda of Toronto.

Ajax Mazda used to be top notch, but ever since they had a brown guy steer the ship, well **** just hit the fan. One of the worst dealerships now, used to be awesome, they used to rent me a car for oil changes, since I would drive out there from Markham.

Truly is sad. Thus why most of us do everything ourselves, except for mandatory warranty, recalls, and maintenance work.

True that! Better to change it ourselves or do install meets where everyone cares about helping! Look at the work that you and Thumper gave me. Do you think I would have felt comfortable with a dealership helping me with all the stories I hear? Club help is awesome! Thanks guys!

Ok ... so I am at a dealership now. I am concerned in case things turn on me ... but so far I have been treated well. Let's hope this continues. If so ... then 8's in this area will at least have a place to go!

Go to Scarborough Mazda. Even though they changed general manager, the service dept manager is what matters and that is unchanged. Russell is a very good service manager. Steve and Kenji in parts dept are also awesome. You need ANY RX-8 part, he'll print off the diagram and make sure that is the part you want. They respond to their emails fast, and parts come in on-time.

For service advisor, I'm not sure if Rachel still works there, but I normally deal with Mark Outar now and that is the go to man if you are looking for RX-8 servicing.

Don't contest, just go Scarboro Mazda for all your rx-8 needs!

scoot rx-8; hope everything works out well for ya as well! Whitby Mazda is kind of a ways away from me however I'd be interested to know how you find Whitby Mazda after they do some work on your 8 as I am sometimes in the area... !

prospectjtaz; wow the car almost came off the lift? thats brutal ... I think my dad knows the service manager there too LOL ...

Personally - Scarb Mazda warrantied my eccentric shaft seal and had MazMark did the work. I was glad he did it, as he's the rotary god around our area. I do thank Russell for having it go thru under warranty, but along the way there was some iffy moments I wasn't 100% confident about the situation, if it was going to be covered or not.

The question now is, will I get back all the money I put into it because of being miss diagnosed at the beginning $400+.

Also, this is completely IMO I don't have the same comfort factor now as compared to when Al was there. He always did his damnedest for us.

Ajax Mazda - NEVER EVER EVER go there! They are the biggest POS stealership out there. Only Fukin idiots take their cars there and don't know a thing about how to google/do research.

I always heard bad things about Markham Mazda, I got a friend who worked there as a Sales, and he quit like 3 months after......... He just told me Markham Mazda is so bad or something...... I usually go to Avante Mazda for my RX-8, like prospectjtaz said, one of the service advisor has a 8. I mainly service my Rx-8 at Avante. I saw a few FC service at there too.... I service my FD only at Mazdees..... However, I always heard good things about Scarboro Mazda, so I guess Scarboro Mazda is your new dealership to service your R3 man~
