That is better than knowing nothing about everything....

Rotary-RX8, if you could organize in T. I can help. I'd like to get my new car tuned when I get it.

If not, i'll just drive out to whoever does it (chicago, columbus...it's all the same difference)

Rotary-RX8 02-12-2011 07:51 AM

^ Its a deal if you help me lol. Like i said im not too good at organizing stuff. But i can try and help.

Chad D. 02-12-2011 08:00 AM

Considering Wolf has the experience we could find out the good/bad of last year.
Like the dyno time like he mentionned.
When would this possibly go down? June?
I say june b/c I am tapped for loot until then lol (buying a new 8, building race header, advans + tires, and my austin project, fd subframes build into a rolling chassis)
After that would be fine. I'd like to get it tuned for some lapping days.

Rotary-RX8 02-12-2011 10:30 AM

Sounds good for june :)

GOOD:
- people were great to deal with and pretty reasonable
- location was good, lots of parking
- dyno worked well and they had a backup dyno in case anything went wrong
- it was a blast.

NOT SO GOOD:
- dyno time was insufficient. plan 1hr N/A and 2hr turbo, considering setup and takedown.
- make ppl pay dyno operators directly. collecting USD for Jeff and CAD for dyno is a pain in the ass.
- Paypal fees are a bitch. Accept balance transfers in USD only, or use personal transfers and sender pays fees.
- planning it early means many people flake or can't commit. we didn't fill our slots until a few weeks before. on the other hand, Jeff needs notice. Finding the balance is hard and you will likely assume some risk.
- I think Scott and Jeff were there until like 2-3am? Dyno op started at 10am, that was too late for this many cars. Should start at 7 or 8 at the latest.

If I participate this year it wouldn't be until late July at the earliest. It will probably be next year for me though. But I might come down and say hi.

Rotary-RX8 02-12-2011 01:04 PM

^ sounds like a headache to organize all this. I give you props for doing it last year. If you wouldn't mind organizing another one.. Even if its late july I'd help a bit.

Jedi54 02-12-2011 03:13 PM

Organizing these events can be very time consuming and as wolf mentioned, there is the fine balancing act between planning too early and not giving enough notice.
One thing I have done the past two years with the SoCal event is to make the tuning fees non-redundable.
Its a necessary evil in planning these in case someone drops out late in the game and no one can fill the slot in time.
These dyno days have a fixed cost associated with them so if a spot isn't filled, it drives up the price for everyone else involved.

+1 on paying the dyno operator separately .

I had a great time last year. It's somewhat of a headache to organize anything.
thewulf did an amazing job last year, he has pointed out the hardships that he learned, from that list it seems the adjustments would be made somewhat easily because they would be effective immediately.

and yeah, it was crazy late last year. I said good night to Jeff, got off the elevator, looked at my watch and was like, 3:30wtf? That would hopefully be changed.

Like I said, I would like to be part of another MM Dyno/tune in Toronto.
(:smokepokeno border crossing for me)

I'll even go first, so no worries of me trying to cut in line. lol

Rotary-RX8 02-12-2011 05:55 PM

^ Im honestly really up for this. There are a few mods im looking to put on my car this summmer and wouldnt mind a tune to be honest ;).

Chad D. 02-12-2011 05:58 PM

wcs would maybe like a turn on the dyno at that time.
winkwink.

shaojie1984 02-12-2011 09:47 PM

I'm up for this too. Hope this happens soon, so Jeff can bring my new turbo here and tune it. :)

The problem with my situation this year is that I don't know if I'll be able to afford my turbo kit until June (I'll be honest, it'll probably go to next year but I'm trying to push for this year).

Also, I'm not just going to grab a kit and bolt it on -- I have something very specific in mind that I want and it might be an issue of sourcing all the parts or falling over to S/C if the kit I want to build is going to be too much of a headache.

If there's nothing organized by that time and I'm ready to go ahead with it, then I don't mind organizing it again, but if you guys are really motivated to do it, then I recommend someone else does. I'll help out where I can.

That's pretty damn close to what we were doing last year... parking lot installs, compression tests, etc. The only difference is the GTA has a lot less people than SOCAL which is to be expected.

Oh, and we had beer, so we win :icon_tup:

Jedi54 02-26-2011 11:39 AM

wulf: we haz beer, liquor, and GT5 in the lobby

Chad D. 02-26-2011 12:24 PM

SoCal guys are always rubbing it in. :(
