ON I Just Want To Drive: Best Driving Roads in Ontario

You know somewhere you drive to in a day, maybe stay the night in a motel/a friend's cottage, what ever or there and back in a day from your start point.
I'll start this one off and hope you all just join in!

And here we go! Did this one last summer going to friend's cottage. It was pouring rain with two friends on bikes, my 8 out front, the bikes were a bit reluctant about the rain. man this road has some curves!

Look this up on google maps for real good directions. You want to go up Hwy. 11 to just north of Washago. Look for Southwood road about one minute past Severn Bridge, it's also called Rd. 13. The turn off is on your right and it goes under Hwy 11 to the west. It's easy to miss so keep your eyes open! You will go about a mile past a few houses then turn right, follow signs, Southwood Rd, #13. There is about 5 minutes of fairly straight road then you hit a stop sign. I think that is #19. I think you go left then right to follow Southwood road. it goes to Hwy 169 at Torrance.
Have fun and keep her shiny side up! It's one the most twisty road I've ever been on.

This road is a mix of beautifully paved and loose gravel/asphalt mix depending on the stretch your on at any given moment, so beware it can be tricky, it's really easy to slide your rear end out. Just Great Fun!
Biker friends of mine have nicknamed it THE GOAT PATH!

I've been on that road twice with my RX. Once in late September last year and once at the beginning of March this year. The surface was beat to hell over the winter and there was cleverly placed road sand (as opposed to road salt) randomly scattered in and around corners.

Maybe the surface gets better after the ground has thoroughly thaws but I have to say my most recent trip along the road was crappy compared to the first.

Have not been up there so far this year, will do again before the end of the summer, hopefully not in in a downpour.

If you been on other spots like this please post.

well hockley valley or forks of the credit are worth mention, although the latter is always busy and made boring with all the minivans sight seeing. Ive been on some really killer roads in ontario over the last few years, problem is they arent all RX8 firendly. Alot of the roads i've enjoyed driving on were found during or as part of navigational or performance rallies....so obviously not sports car friendly....sometimes i miss being a rally fanboy. haha.

Thumbs up Hamilton area

Hamilton Area (specifically Dundas)

#1 Old Ancaster Road > just over 2.5km long with only one stop sign. Multiple tight benders and some real nice sweepers too. Recommended for off-peak hours as cyclists are fond of this road. Oh and watch for deer !

#2 Sulfur Springs > Less than ideal road condition with 80% dirt / gravel mix. = don't try to overtake a WRX on this stretch as it's a rally fan's paradise.

#3 Snake Road > combo high speed with multiple wide sweeping corners.

just did a nice tour of the forks and hockley valley today. was fun, but crowded. And people are driving very stupidly. there was an STI going through and this huge 4x4 chev right on his *** the entire time. I would be suprised if there was even a foot between them....what is wrong with people? I wont likely be going back this season...way too many bikes especially on hockley road...passing you on blind turns with double lines when you are already going comfortably over the speed limit....im not interested in running over any stupid bikers. on a positive note, i got 450km to the tank!!!! thats a record for me. and i wanst ***** footing around. country road driving is so easy on gas.

Well, Southwood is always nasty in the spring. I ride a motorcycle as well and, fun as that road can be, I respect the corners there since you almost never know when some sand dune will appear.

The Parry Sound area has some of the best roads around Ontario: Hwy 632 and Hwy 141 near Rosseau are two of my absolute favourites. 518 is also nice, but can be choppy in places. If you've never travelled a nice twisty road in our province, head up that way.
