ON on going flooding problem

hey just checking to see if anyone else is having this running super rich/flooding problem. it seems that once the car warms up then shut off (getting gas etc) its a real bitch to start up again, but once the temp goes down i can start it up easier then before. the only real thing i can see wrong is a leaky fuel injector just because its only happening in one rotor housing or theres a ecu tuning problem. let me know what you think thanks.

what year is it?
how many Kms?
Any Mods?
when was your plugs, coils and wires last replaced?
does it throw a CEL light on your dash after you manage to get it started?

it sounds to me that its not flooding but hot start problems.i had the same problem a few weeks ago.

its a 2004 with 155349km, it has a aem cold air intake and the plugs were replaced 2 months ago and no lights on the dash. the coils and wires were replaced when i bought it in 2008. i thought maybe the intake had something to do with it but it happens with the stock airbox too. when i took the spark plugs out to change then i pulled out the leading plug in the rear housing it had tones of carbon build up and was soaked in oil and gas so its flooding pretty bad.

yup same problems i had.my plugs were the same but hot start probs can also mean bad compression too.you may just need a decarb done on it.i think you still have some time on the engine waranty (160 thousand km i think) i would take it to your mazda dealer and ask them to do diagnostics on it.they will perform a compression test and a vacuum test. if both test figures are low they will want to do a decarb with zoom cleaner.once this has been done and both test numbers are still below spec they may honour the waranty and you get a new engine.but mazda canada will put up a fight to try and get out of replacing your engine they will ask for records of oil changes and also question the oil you have used ie spec oil or synthetic (big no no).if every thing is well you will get a replacement.

if your numbers are a little low but above spec they may reflash the ecu with a more current flash, if that doesn't work there is a flash only for hot start issues, they also recommend you replace the starter to the newer version (05 model) that cranks at the higher 250rpm which mazda recommend for starting as the 04 starter is weak (not covered under engine warranty).

break down based on what happened to me:

diagnostics includes compression test, vacuum test, reflash of ecu to more current version and also mazda canada will advise them to decarb as well, 1 hour labour and zoom cleaner
cost - $152

extras as recommended but not done yet:

hot start reflash $53
05 and up starter $188
1 hour labour $103+taxes

i did not fail any of the tests my numbers were low but above spec after the decarb and reflash.my car starts great now and runs alot better, ask Rxeckless it pulls just as hard as his 8.

hope this helps and good luck

Sounds like a compression check would be a good idea
