Gear dropping under hard acceleration?
wcs is talking about hisself!!!
Come meet me anytime! Will show you my engine...
I mean CAI...
I have to agree that it's very normal and regular that automatics downshift when you floor it. (Unless there's something wrong with the car...)
My mom's Volvo's downshift too! But they don't downshift if you just floor it. If you just floor it, it'll just steadily increase. What you have to do is step on the gas hard, then release it and quickly floor it. So kinda like doing a double click, but with your foot instead of the mouse. I guess this tells the computer that you really need MORE POWER! =)

Yes Leesha. Because we're all used to using our ***** and doing it ourselves instead of leaving the decision making to electricity and a motor
Yep, there's a reason it's called an automatic transmission. If for some reason you need to accelerate quickly and you floor it, it will downshift to the lowest gear possible. It is in no way a performance feature. Many ATs even in manual mode will still downshift if you put the pedal all the way down because at that point it thinks you're panicking and really need to accelerate.
If your civic isn't downshifting when you stomp on the gas you should really have a mechanic look at it. Go for a ride in any other AT car and you'll see that it downshifts.

I let my buddy take it out when I got it and he kicked down the peddle and nothing happened. I kinda felt embarrassed! LOL I was figuring on my little black beast pouncing forward like a panther...instead, I said "punch it man!" and he looked at me and said "I am, my foot's on the floor". ugh. What happened?
I bought it privately. What known issues are there? He was using the paddles in MT mode. The car moves, sounds, starts, idles quietly and smoothly all the time. I've had no problems with acceleration at all with the exception of a couple of times where the engine seems to "pulse" forward a bit. I'm still getting used to the rotary which is quite a bit different from our 96 civic si. Gotta be VERY careful in this baby. Feels like I'm doing 80 when I'm going 150!!
Thus the car would not automatically shift from 4th down to 2nd unless he manually did it.
*sigh*
