Faulty dipsticks caused delay in Vancouver

Just got word from Mazda Canada, via my dealer, on what the holdup was in port at Vancouver. Turns out the full/add indications on the oil dipstick were stamped in the wrong spot.

I suppose the upside is the issue was not a compex one ...

Yeah, I heard the same thing today from my dealer.
What a silly reason for such a long delay.

well, it's better late and RIGHT than having you constantly overfilling the sump, eh??

...but yes, it's one of those headsmack dummy errors.

True. But it's also the kind of error that could have been fixed by sending replacement dipsticks to the dealerships... but it can't be helped now.

Oh... I thought you meant the faulty dipstick at Mazda who's in charge of organizing the pre-order program. :p

I suspect you're spot on - the Low mark on a Canuck dipstick is probably one litre below full, as opposed to one US Quart below full for the US market.

Re: Buy that?

Or maybe the Quebeqois wouldn't let 'em in because they weren't labelled in French.

Now that's way funny. And as plausible as anything else we've heard.

Clearly you have never really dealt with a government organization: I wouldn't doubt this story for a second, particularly if it were in fact a metric/standard issue. It is just the sort of thing some empire-building TC official would get his shorts in a knot about...
