So I hear us up north are supposed to get temperatures around the -35 mark with a wind chill in the mid -40's... Should I even attempt to start the 8 in the morning, or find another way into work? I do not want to run the risk of flooding if it does not fire up.

Dude its your car, we had temps that low last year, my 04 turned with an old starter.

So do what your comfortable with.

Hopefully you know how to deflood/dry plugs off.

 

Yes I do know how to deflood, had too already this year when my clutch was a little to cold and killed the engine when i released it. Just pull started it and let her smoke for a while... but if possible, i want to avoid that situation again.

 

Bah crank dat ****...she will be fine, just don't let off the ignition before she starts.

 

I was in Saskatoon with the 8 last year, I seem to remember like -50 or worse and it started no problem, albeit slower than usual

Parked for about 3hrs for a Christmas company party and the RX-8 started fine.
Had the rough idling for about 5mins. (not plugged in)

Block (Oil Pan?) heater would be your best bet.

 

Ouch. I say hibernate and stay home when it's that cold.

 

lol I wish... - 38c this morning, the 8 started with no problems, except for the clutch and transmission being frozen lol but I made it to work.

I actually like when it gets to -40c so I don't have to do the Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion.

 

Welp.. it finally dipped to -21 in the GTA this morning.. all I can say is thank god for indoor parking. Should be fun starting the car up tonight when I leave work (parked outside )... gonna go out on a limb and say the car will feel like a slushbox.

 

The 1 - 2 is absolutely BRUTAL in the cold, especially with the temperature today. Not looking forward to the first 10 minute drive after work today.

Sometimes it clunks so hard in the cold that I feel some parts are rubbing with no transmission oil on them or something

 

Go transit ftw...oh wait even the switches on the railway are fcked up!

 

You should always leave your manual transmission in neutral during winter months, that way you never encounter frozen clutches and it makes it easier on the car.

 

I lived in Regina, Sask. for 8 months or so a very long time ago and the norm for them is -40C.

Try walking about 1/2hr. to get to school!!! No matter how many socks, pants, gloves you wear your never warm.

It was so cold this morning my ECU reset and I was stuck at 2800 rpm with no response from the peddle. Thank god I have a COBB tuning port to reflash my map. Ugh....was worried for a few minutes. Or maybe the COBB caused it.....oh well. Seemed like it switched to anti theft mode on its own

 

Yup that's what the temperature reading said on mine too this morning...I wish I had HEATED indoor parking...
After I let the clutch in, the car kept reving itself to stay alive and above 1.5k rpms....after the temp guage went up a bit the rpms stabilized..
Also it was pretty tough shifting the stick and getting her into reverse..

I don't know how you guys in Winnipeg or something do it...

Yeah, I hear that. Last night and this morning, the first 2 or 3 times I have to go from 1st to 2nd I get the wicked thump, or even a nice 'grind' if I am lucky.

I look like a manual transmission noob as I take like 5 seconds between first and second gear shifts to let the RPM's drop.

Also, when I started my car this morning I had the awesome RPM up, down, up, down, up, down.

 

Been around just not in Canada but the love of the US threads are keeping me away form you guys...

Holidays were fun...I got a new years puppy born Dec. 31 @ 11:48pm so that's what I was doing...

yah, my 8 was "hunting" this morning too. when its -15 it doest it for a bit, never more than 30 seconds. this morning it went on like that for well over a mintue though. rev, pop. rev, pop. rev, pop. lol. we are suposed to get some snow tonight.... i cant wait for spring.

Yup -21, -22 the 8 hates it. REVs up and down like crazy, kept my clutch in for awhile, makes a big difference in stabilizing the rpms. It's gotta be ezier on it. No popping tho that I could hear.
