Car started this evening afterwork. Around -15 C.
Engine shot up to 3200rpm, and then took about 15 seconds for it drop down to 2500rpm (while still holding the clutch in).
Car does seem to be more powerful in the winter though. The CAI does help! Whether psychologically or not...... I'm going to believe I just got +5 HP today in these temperatures
However, a +5HP increase that I could not use at all because it took me 2 hours to get home from Vaughan Mills to Scarborough Town Centre..
Hwy 7 FTMFL
One thing did put a BIG SMILE on my face.... an accident in the centre lane whereby a Corolla rear-ended a Camry hahahahah

In 2 hours today, I went from volunteering, to a friends house, then halfway across the city to the airport fed-ex depot to pick up a package, then went to another part of the city to eat at a resturant, then half way back the city to my friends place, then back home again...LOL

Daemos,
that 2 hour drive covered a distance of 32 km only
During a normal rush hour, it's a 1 hour drive.
At night time with no cars, it's a 20 minute drive.
You can sort of see the average speeds from there
16kph today
Worst of all is... it was just sheer coldness that slowed people down. It wasn't snowing at all in any parts of the drive! Why is this happening? I can only say SHITTY *** DRIVERS in TORONTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

32KM in 1 or 2 hours? omggggg...I'd go nuts! Winnipeg drivers I think are pretty bad...but for the most part in winter time I see very negative impact on speeds unless if it's servery icy (there was a time in 6th gear, at 60kph any heavy throttle would put me sideways!) or if it just finished snowing and the plows haven't had time to go down some streets. Ironically though, most of the cars I do see slowing down are SUVs...(although there are also lots of SUVs that speed)i love that theory though cold = bad driving conditions!
They really gotta fix up the rush hour freeway system out there.
This was Tuesday morning. I hate walking to class in this cold. It's like -28 F here right now, and we're supposed to have 30 to 40mph winds tomorrow. Not looking forward to going to class tomorrow. They should just cancel it. Grand Forks did that last year once or twice.

Hit -40 this morning in Sudbury, the 8 was mad at me when i started her...
The drivers here aren't usually too too bad... but I leave at 7:00am to avoid the traffic, and so I can see the potholes coming.

I keep hearing about other people who can't start their cars here, and my 8 has started every day so far in these temperatures... and all this time I was worried...

I spoke too soon, that sucks man. hope it works out for you... maybe you will be lucky and the person who is interviewing you won't be able to get to work either.
Mine is from a weak battery that sucks ballz and froze.
So got it boosted and now my car seems FUKED!! revs super high 2500-3000rpm for 3-5 min (clutch in or not), then starts jumping up and down 1500-2500rpm. I have ZERO throttle response. WTF is that???? once she was warmed up I turned it off and started again started up and same thing again. Turned off again after 5 or more min, try to start again battery is dead. New battery fix this all this ****? I am so thinking about selling it right now it's not even fuking funny!!
Waiting for a call from Al about their batteries. AAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL whhhereereerrere rrrrrr UUUUUUUUUUUUU???

Do you have a COBB port? Maybe that is f-ing up your ECU like it did to mine. You may want to look into an oil pan heater. Or consider turning off ALL accesories before you shut down so that the car has less loads when its cranking. I havn't had a single issue yet, knock on wood. But you knew about these issues before you bought so you can't blame the car. Just imagine how much it sucks to drive a piston powered auto, ewww gross, shoot me now...

Edit - I put a portable heater under the hood and some blankets around it to keep the heat in. No idea at all if this will help, but don't give two ***** something is better than nottin

I can trump that Thumper...
I can't really say was the root cause of my luck was but I'm guessing battery->alternator or alternator->battery.
Anyhow, I was conned into giving a friend I ride to school this morning at 6:30. Can started fine, maybe a few extra cranks before the engine gave in and stopped being stubborn but all was normal.
I was coming back from Oakville on the QEW/403 when the radio volume went down by itself and the battery dash light went on. Me thinking the car should charge it while driving didn't really think much of it. Got to around Appleby or Walkers Line when the center console went dark, radio went off and the TPMS and DSC lights came on. About 30 seconds later the coolant and ABS lights went on. I shut the heater and fan off hoping that I could nurse the damned thing to the Hamilton Mazda dealer about 5 minutes further down the QEW. Just before the 403/QEW split the headlights and will assume taillights, dash and the auto dimming mirror LED died. I decided to stay on the 403 because if the car gave up on the Skyway bridge, I'd be killed by traffic. The power steering and engine light came on about 30 seconds later and lost power steering. Realizing I'm fucked and can't pull over to the side of the highway because the shoulder isn't ploughed I have to wait under the next exit (4 kms) until I could try and save the engine because I'm thinking sooner or later the ECU is going to cut out and something rather expensive is either going to starve or explode.
After a 3.5 hours and 13km walk I got home.
**** sakes...

Sanguine, do a voltage check on your battery terminals. There is a chart somewhere that corresponds to voltage measured with the ampacity of your battery to give you the percentage of charge.
i.e. a 12 V battery should read somewhere between 13.8 - 14V as a brand new 100% charged battery.

Damn man that is shitty!! Least I didn't get stuck walking to my interview. Sounds like an alternator, cause your car should keep going even if your battery is dead.
Meet ya at Scar Mazda?? lol

I'm going to mount a rescue mission after lunch, the car has the ~9.6V threshold that if the battery was below that, even push starting won't work right?
I've already donated about $2,300 to my local dealer but after the hack job they did replacing the dead unit and the missing CDs that were in the old head unit that I never got back, I might have to visit Al like the rest of you guys. Everyone goes there, must be a reason...

YOUr battery is reading 9.6V????? Holy **** it's beyond dead!
If your battery is dead, I don't think your car would move anymore Thumper. The ECU would have no juice, and thus no brains to control the engine timings...
Not to mention, the electric assist steering is gone too

1) Clean your battery terminals. Someones an alternator is working, but you have a **** connection because of corrosion/dirt and is impeding the flow of power.
2) Measure the voltage at the battery terminal with your car fully off.
3) Measure the voltage at the battery terminal with the car started. This will give you the output of the alternator voltage, to see if your alternator is alright.
