Confused About Front Plates (Ontario) Leesha?

What's the deal? We all hate how it looks with the front plates, Id get an aftermarket grille for the front tomorrow if i knew i wouldnt need a front plate.

After seeing Leesha's car pics everywhere i wanted to make sure, is the front dash licence plate allowed or not? Do you get away with it just cuz ur a chick and the cops don't treat ya like crap or what?

Legally, you have to have a front plate. There's no debating it.

However, depending on where you live, and how the cop feels that day, you can get away driving without a plate.
It will not last long. Possibly a couple of months at the most 1/2yr. But eventually a cop will pull you over and he will give you a ticket for not having a front plate.
That's $110 everytime you don't display your plate.

I had no plate on the front for about 4-5 months. And then I took a trip to Mississauga in the pouring rain (this was a long time ago when I first got my car). There I was getting off 403 on Hurontario when I noticed a cop car in front of me. He stayed in front for awhile and then dropped back. As soon as I got onto Hurontario he pulled me over. And this is in pouring rain! I had no idea why he pulled me over. He came over and asked the typical question "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I told him "No, I don't. I wasn't doing anything wrong, was I?"
He simply asked "Where's your front plate?" I thought I could get away with it just carrying the plate in the back storage cubby. I showed him and said "I lost a mounting screw so I had to take it off" The bracket was a bit bent and out of shape. He simply stated "I want you to get that fixed ASAP. Here's your ticket"
I just looked at him and shaked my head.

So what did I try next? I still left the bracket off and left the plate in the middle of my dash right against the window.
2 months go by. While I'm waiting in the left hand turn lane, cops were directing traffic due to a malfunction of the streetlights. They usually have a pair of directing traffic. One of them quickly ran over to my car and said "You know it's illegal to have the plate displayed like that" I told him "It's visible from the outside." He shook his head and said "sometimes the light reflects badly and you can't see it within a car. You must display the plate on the outside of the vehicle. I'll let you go this time but get that plate on the front bumper" I nodded and proceeded to turn left.

The next day I got the extra mounting screw, unbent the bracket, and installed the plate on the bumper.

I didn't want to bother getting $110 everytime some cop decided to make my life a living hell.

There you have it!

Hi all,

No plate and don't ever intend on putting one on. So far I've driven behind a cop and no probs so take a chance it looks much nicer without it!!

LoL leesha you're lucky that we live in such a liberal society where broads pay less on insurance and get less tickets

For some reason I think that I'd have the same luck as you Neo. I changed my mind, ill just keep my bumper looking stock and get a chrome frame for the plate or something.

Young and brown...? shouldnt be too much of a problem unless ur in kitchener and surrounded by the skin heads

marceldwayne,

I forgot to mention, we can't all be attractive women like Leesha....

I hate having my front plate on. It ruins the lines of my car tremendously. But cops will pull you over and harass you. Especially now with the whole "street racing" fever going around.

Last time I was in Kitchener there were all sorts of people around. Skinheads included...

Why thank you! I guess it all comes down to luck. I also have a cop neighbour that lives 2 doors down from me and he doesn't harass me at all... I asked him if it was ok without the plate, he told me no, it'sa charge of $110 for the ticket but he doesn't care.

So I'll see how long I can go without it. The miata's don't have front plates either.

I swapped out my plate bracket and cut down my plate to make it less noticeable.

Not really, its just that the city happens to be home to Canada's largest network of Neo-***** (ala American History X). This might have something to do with the Germanic background of the original settlers of Kitchener. City of kitchener was originaly named Berlin but had to change during the wartime period to avoid discrimination from other Ontarians.

Darkbrew, that looks pretty cool. you haven't had any problems with it eh? So you had to trim the licence plate's plastic frame aswell right?

marceldwayne,
No problems and it was blessed by a cop I know.
Yes, it was quite an operation. I should do a DIY. You have to find some of those flat bolts to do the install. Metal shears and a drill are also must-haves.

I did something similar when I was younger with my Impreza RS. A cop stopped me and asked me why is the plate looked smaller. Gave me a warning. Fortunately I did not cut it but rather bent the sides in which I promptly restore to original. 'ssauga cops can be quite the ****. Many are fresh grads from the academy and are power trippers.
