Condensations sucks! :(

Check this out, when I picked up my RX-8 about three weeks ago, there was condensation building on the left tail light, so the dealer replaced the tail lights for me with another RX-8's tail lights. Guess what, after the snow storm, the left tail light is full with condensation again!

I read on here somewhere that our cars are famous for this, so can I get it fixed/replaced under warranty? If not, is there a way to fix this, and/or any suggestions?

Dont slam your trunk. I dont let ANYONE around my trunk. I only drop it from about an inch high. Otherwise the trunk contacts the light and cracks it.

Oh, and the dealer was supposed to put a little pad on the light right where the truck corner is. That doesn't help tho if someone slams it.

Great, I wish the dealer would have told me about the trunk thing. I don't slam my trunk, but I don't exactly close the trunk from one inch either. Okay, so if I get the dealer to fix this, it should be under warranty, since this is a Mazda defect right?

Well, the first fix is on Mazda. If they didn't fix it right, the second one should be also. But I dont think that means the fix is free for ever. I would go in with a smile, ask for the fix, and if they give you crap, remove the smile and be ready with the TSB printed out to give them crap back.

problem is the TSB from finishlineperformance.com is US. CDN Mazda dealership may complain. So start with a smile. Then put on your pitiful eyes and pout those lips.

I didn't think TSBs had anything to do with warranties.
That they were just bulletins to Mazda "techs" on how to repair a common problem or complaint. Unless of course it is something covered by warranty.
Handy to have in your hand when going to ask about the problem.????

Somebody here said to drill a very small hole at the light fixture. I haven't done that but can imagine it might work. I usually do close my trunk reasonably hard so maybe I'd better be gentler.

I had an inch of water in mine and I didn't want to spring for a new assembly so they drilled 2 holes in the bottom. No more standing water but a lot of condensation still...

I am having the same issue with mine. Had my original passenger tail replaced 2 weeks ago after I noticed some weird crystallized stuff inside.

After replacement, I noticed watermarks on the inside of the new light. And yesterday while washing my car at the pressure washes, the new light was a total aquarium.

Very disappointed with the new light they put in. The old light never let in water like this, I rather have kept my original light with the odd crystallized stuff inside. I will be printing out the TSB and bringing it in with me at my next service and hopefully this time they do things properly.

yes, that's SOAP WATER inside my light...SOAPPPPP....

My right taillight has just begun doing this as well. I think I'll have to take it in and see what they'll do at the dealership. (if anything lol)

If the dealer just swapped tail lights with another RX-8 on the lot, then they have done NOTHING under warranty.
Tell them you want the "UPDATED" tail light. They have a different seal on them.

Technical Service Bulletin...
You can find all of them here: http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/bulletins.html

"water in rear combination light" would be the one we are talking about. If your warranty is not up yet, they should be doing it free of charge.

what year are your rx-8s? my 06 has no condensation. but some tiny aphid-like creatures are making it their afterlife sanctuary.
I was thinking to bring it into the dealership for the tsb work. But after reading how dealerships made it even worse caused me to take a pause.
And i think I do slam the trunk whenever i use that hidden lever. How could you not?

Yo Delhi don't bother with it if it is not giving you a problem, I have an '06 as well and never have those issues. I do however have a stupid bug stuck inside that little brake light that is on the centre of the trunk

Mine is an '05. I spoke to the service manager at Mazda (as my car is still under warranty), and she told me to bring it in tomorrow for an inspection and if it passes or something, then the lights get replaced, which have to be ordered for January. I will print out the TSB and take it to her, thanks guys for the help and God Bless you all!

I think it is a requirement from Mazda that each and every pair of RX8 tail-lights has at least one insect, arachnid or what have you inside the housing... There was a thread on here posting up pics of what people had in their tail-lights years ago... Sure enough the moment I bought mine this summerI checked and found a mosquito lol...

I also noticed a small spider in one of my over-head map-lights lol...
