Canadian Mazdaspeed Prices!!!!!

Mazdaspeed parts prices here in Canada are insane. I'm needing a Mazdaspeed flywheel that is $847 here, and as low as $500 over the border. WTF?

Anybody know of cheaper?

Does it have to be Mazdaspeed? I know of a place in Austrailia where I get my lightweight flywheels for any customer cars for roughly $500 CDN including shipping. OR maybe check out ACT or Exedy ?
Let me know if you want a price for an Aussie flywheel installed

Most of prices in Canada are higher, be it car leasing, tvs, cell phones, high end watches, clothes... Just a fact of life. (I am comparing to NY here, haven't been to Ohio or Kentucky yet)
smaller market = less competition + higher taxes = worse prices.
Is my general explanation. (I am sure there are more specific explanations for every case)
Get it from abroad and they will try to rape you with taxes.
So get someone to decrease the indicated goods value and save some money.

BTW this is in no way an anti Canadian post. There is no other country I would rather live in.

There is also a lot of "gouging" here as well....a lot of it based on historic splits between Can$ and US$ prices. A lot of vendors are still running price splits based on 35 cent dollar differences like a couple of years ago

Try Khan Motorsports...he's a vendor on here...and see what he will do. Last time I saw prices he was pretty good!

100% agree on the split. I guess they get away with it.

Not if you pay attention....I order most of my stuff from the US...including tires...which are the biggest rip off in Canada.

My 275 Azenis were over $100 CDN cheaper per tire in the States

At todays exchange $500USD should be $570CND, not $847. And lets not forget our 14% tax on top of that!

Thanks for the offer. My tranny is being swapped under warranty so it'll be a cheap install to slide the flywheel in, although they still have to remove the clutch.

I'm going with mazdaspeed for the warranty.

Thanks!

And your right about the gouging. Ie. Harley greatly reduced Canadian prices to offset the better dollar but all auto manufacturers continue to screw us.

What happened to your clutch / flywheel?
Lately I have developed some kind of irrational concern with premature clutch failure (for which I will have to pay) Although I double clutch, heel and toe and don't drag race. I hope my concerns are ill founded. Have 30k now.

Nothing. TurboEight is correct; the tranny on my '05 w/21000kms is grinding at the 3-4 shift at redline, so the dealer ordered a new one. Is perfect otherwise.

I agree with you 100%.

In fact even if you pay all the taxes at the border you STILL end up paying less than if you bought in Canada.

Just go accross the border to a Mazda dealer, have it installed and I assure you the customs will never know you have a lightened flywheel

On top of that, the Mazdaspeed parts at the dealer are covered under Mazda warranty....

Don't buy anything from dealer....
their prices are crazily overpriced. it's insane!
i quoted the Mazdaspeed muffler, it's over like $850 CDN!
that's insane! ship your items to the states and pick it up at the border!
(Point Roberts for anyone in the Lowermainland)

Mazda jacks up the price like crazy,
just think... i got a coupon in the mail for 15% off mazda accessories...
and even then, it's still over priced!!!!

It's all about supply and demand. And you have to admit, the Mazdaspeed parts are relatively well done. Certainly, Honda and the TRD parts don't really compare...

FWIW, I had to get some relatively boring Mazdaspeed accessories, and I asked if the dealer could cut me a break, and they knocked off 15% straight away.

thanks for the kind words. It sucks that stuff in canada is more expensive, i agree

this is due to a bunch of factors.
1) there is smaller market so distributors can markup more
2) because of the smaller market, we can't qualify as heavily for price brakes from manufacturers (i.e. bilstein wants a minimum of 20,000$US order buy in for me to be direct with them....i can't commit to that right now cause what i sell in PSS9's for one year a california dealer probably does in a bloody month! :'( )
3) we pay an import duty on US parts, and as a business, many of us will not try to cheat the government because jail is bad, and I think it would be very unprofessional for me to ask my destributors south of the border to break their laws either.
4) shipping for bigger things like suspensions and exhausts across the border can be quite pricey and need to be factored in to both our cost and retail.

because of all these things, it is more expensive buying in canada, especially when we have the strong dollar to shop elsewhere for now.

However, you have to remember that UPS/Fedex charge a bigass brokerage fee (minimum 20 or so dollars flat i think), then you've got GST, and possibly 1 or 2 other hidden fees so when you're shopping overseas, remember to factor those in.

Having said that, I am committed to providing canadian members with the best pricing on mazdaspeed that i can and i WILL match/beat any other authorized mazdaspeed dealer pricing. My reason for doing this is simple, they're good parts, and i share a passion for Mazdas just like the rest of you and derive satisfaction from seeing really tricked out RX-8's on the road. If we can be of any help to anyone regarding mazdaspeed or mazda accessories, please don't hesitate to PM and i will try to reply asap. I've also posted up a full price list for RX-8 Mazdaspeed stuff in our subforum at the top of the RX-8club.com main page.

Thanks and happy rotoring!
