Break In RX8

Just got my RX8 and still in the break in period. I will be going on a business trip next week from Montreal to Kingston.

The owners manual recommends, that the care for the first 1000 km, not be driven at the same constant speed for long periods of time.

Basically all I want to know is if there is any danger to taking it this soon on a long trip before the break in period ends.

a long trip is perfect for break in - just don't stay at constant ENGINE speed for 1/2 hr at a time . You could shift between 5th and 6th to avoid that .

Thats what I did with my MS6. Stayed at the same speed, just drove in diffrent gears. I personally changed every 10 mins.

Congrats on your new car.

I drove my new 2007 from Toronto to Ottawa (~400KM) three days after getting it from the dealer. I know it says not to drive for constant speeds for too long but I can tell you from personal experience that it shouldn't matter. The constant speed shouldn't do any harm to your engine at all even during the break in. I have about 8500 KM on the car now and it runs beautifully. Gets "good" mileage even!

Forget about break-in, just drive the damn thing. Just take it easy for the first little while.
