Aftermarket warranty?

I've been shopping around for a 2004 RX8 and have spoken to a few dealers. The factory warranty on all the vehicles I've looked at have expired, so was wondering if it would be worth it to get an aftermarket warranty? Prices from these dealers range from $800 to $1500 for 2 years and cover the engine, transmission, differential, seals and gaskets, etc.

Also, do I have to buy the warranty at the dealer at the time the car is purchased? Or is it possible to buy it somewhere else? If it is possible, where do you guys recommend getting an aftermarket warranty in British Columbia? I looked at Warranty Direct (they seem to be pretty popular), but they don't offer coverage in BC.

Any info would be appreciated. TIA.
