200km/h club

Just curious to see here how many people have been over 200km/h before. I saw a similar thread somewhere else and I am not very creative so I stole the idea. If you don't agree with this...just don't post up anything . For the record I only do top speeds late at night when there is not a single car around on remote stretches of highway.

1989 Bmw 325 ix - 207km/h - 6000rpm in 5th
2001 Nissan Sentra - 235km/h - 6300rpm in 5th
2005 Mazda Rx8 - 236km/h - 9000rpm in 5th

5th?

Why would you be in 5th gear in the 8 when trying to max your speed?! What's wrong with you?

1st, nothing is wrong with him, the RX-8 will not pull maz rpm in 6th gear. 2nd 255kmh or speed limiter in a 2004 RX-8GT on hwy 400 in Ontario

What does maxing out your RPM have to do with max speed? Maybe Spd Frk hit 236 at 9000 in 5th, but why wouldn't he shift into 6th, keep the throttle all out, and let 6th take him up to max speed? Plus I have no clue what you are trying to say in your second point... are you trying to regurgitate that the 8 has a speed limiter in 6th gear so that's why he needs to use 5th? What does Hwy 400 have to do with this?

Okay, let me try this again. The RX-8's 6th gear in the tranmission is .843:1. The RX-8 does not have enough torque to pull 9500rpm in 6th gear on a flat road unless maybe you had the bonnenville salt flats to run on, and even then it probably wouldnt. The 5th gear ratio is 1:1 which the car can attain it max rpm of 9500rpm at the limiter. When you shift into 6th gear up at that speed, the car will not accelerate any more and actually lose speed. If you added power to the car by way of turbo/supercharger, then you might be able to pull top speed in 6th gear. The car doesnt know what gear your in when the speed limiter cuts in, it only knows how fast you are going. When the other post asked "whats wrong with him?" my point was nothing was wrong with him, he probably knows that the car wont pull in 6th gear. Mt 2nd point was that I have had an RX-8 at 255KMH on hwy 400, and that was at the speed limiter.
Did I clear everything up?

I hit 9000rpm in 5th because i was on a short stretch of Highway where I didn't have enough room to get it up into 6th and go for the speed limiter. I plan on testing 6th later in the year or something.

I ran to 9000 in 5th because that's all I had the space for. Sorry to disapoint.

i think around 220km/h or more, not really notice the odometer but i shift to 6 gear at 190km/h then punch the pedal to the bottom and keep it there for around 3 km. The result is i beat a chrysler 300 but duno whether it is a v6 or v8 version. Now u know why i didnt notice wat speed i was driving cause all i care is keep my eyes on the 300. That a damn powerful car.

I have only been to 225 so far....I believe I was at 7000 rpm in 6th.
I wanted to go higher but it was early one Sunday morning on the 404 southbound just past the Stouffville exit and I started to hit some traffic at Major Mac.

Plus - I don't have any 'get-out-of-jail-free' cards for the OPP....only York Region :D

I'm thinking the more posts in this thread the more you will hear "Warranty claim denied" in your future..

I hope I'm not anywhere near anyone that's doing 200+ while they're taking a picture of their speedometer. Sounds pretty dangerous.

I doubt they can void your warranty just for speeding. That would be like being denied for going 120 on the 400 series highways. Participating in Motorsport is a different world altogether where the warranty can be denied.

Any Mazda employees wanna chip in?

Well, I guess I'll be the semi-responsible one.
I don't know exactly how fast I was going (A bit busy to look down) but I was hitting 200km/h at the end of the back straight, approaching turn 10 at Le Circuit Mt. Tremblant.
Would never do that anymore on a public street, no matter how deserted... things just happen to fast.

In my younger days ( 3 years ago) I passed that number a few times on my Honda CBR, and I v-maxed my old Civic SiR at an indicated 230km/h.

im still amazed of the potential of those tiny SiRs...like 90ftlbs of torque and they keep up with so many cars..
