I have just transfered the money this morning Andrew.

Im still wondering whether I should bring my new RX-8 or the FD RX-7. Im worried that the RX-8 hasnt got enough miles on it to track it yet.
It will just click over 1000kms today. By the time I drive to Winton from here it should have done 1400kms. What do you guys think? Will it be run in enough?

Well for me I would bring the 8 only if you have had the 1st service, ie to get the bedding oil out of it. I belive it contains an additive that I can only guess doesnt like high temps.

I took my car to winton with just under 5000k's. I rekon you will use a lot more fuel than everyone else as well.

Is there a pump to play tyre pressure with?

I was thinking of going to Winton to locate all the stuff the day before. Hopefully there is something on too for us to look at.

OK We are all paid up. We will be doing the long course for those that wanted it. And yes they have a compressor there to pump your tyres.

yum...

I think setting up the car takes the whole day... adjusting the pressure, damper rate and turn in and where to brake and accelerate to tailor made for me...

We will talk about it (esp exp ones like auzoon, Glenn and whtdc2) who tracked there before.

I have the video in hand from whtdc2 to show it. He did tell me that it was his 1st time at Winton but I have to say there is variety of lines taken to show how to be fast!

Mainly enjoy the day and the lap time is second there.....

I ran 36psi last time there and spent most of the time getting used to the mentality needed to track the car. Since then I have learnt a lot such as the skidpan days. I am hoping to be able to be in the low 1:50's to mid 1:40's.

If youve ran there before mid 1:40s would be about right. My old RX-8 in stock form did 1:46s and with semi slick tyres 1:44s. I suspect a car like Taka's with tyres and suspension should be doing 1:41 to 1:42s.

My RX-7 will do 1:37s fairly easy.

It totally depends on the day though. Some days the track just isnt that fast. A lot depends on the temperature and what has been racing there the previous week.

That is a big compliment Glenn

Must not put pressure on self, but I think 1:42 is the time I am aiming. But it really depend on the day.

New slicks on no more excuse for a slow time, but just driver error

On Sunday the MX5 Club of Victoria has their drivers championship along with the alpha club!

So Taka what time are we going to meet at the shell servo on Sunday (same servo as the meetup to go to the nats)

My goal is to complete one lap and then another, if i can in the course of the day reduce my time by at least 10sec then i will be happy...so I am assuming that at the beginning of the day I'll be low 1.50's and and by the end of the day, low 1.40's but since this is my first track...it will be interetsing to see how i go full stop!!

Perhaps after Winton @ mirx*8 you might need to sign up for "Track Addict Anonymous".
Have you got your in-car DV setup sorted out?

Make it 2pm then at DonnyBrooke Shell. (about 1km north from Cragieburn - on Hume Hwy.

TAKA's number - 0413641208

We will be at Benalla Top Town at before 4pm. Get ready to head off before 430pm and still able to get the last run and look around the ground. (Too see if there is any oil spills )

I think they only use the short track for historic meetings now.

1:50s first time there is very good. These cars with an experienced driver are good for 1:46s stock on a perfect day. A stock WRX will do 1:47

I still dont know which car to bring. Im leaning towards the RX-8 though. It had its 1000km service yesterday and I got them to change the oil so it should be ok.

Tim, bring the spare. You can easily take it out at the track.

Glenn, bring the 8, I will be to jealous of the FD :D Seriously though... only bring the 8 if you are comfortable, else ring the FD. We will be happy to see you there in either.

PS...Tim I think you are a voyeur :D

3 sleeps

I can't wait until Monday. I am going up Saturday night to Mansfield for Sunday so won't be able to do the cruise up but will see you all at the track bright and early Monday morning.
Any hints on how to get to the track itself ? I think it may already be somewhere in the 19 odd pages here but am too lazy to look through all of them

I guess you are coming from the Wangarratta way. I guess you have to look for the Winton turn off. It is sort of hidden when Stu and I was doing the late night run back from Goulburn. It is easy to miss. It is near Violet town but I think it is kinna furthur south. If you hit Banalla, you are too far south.

Once you hit the Winton turn off. Keep left and you will find road sign with "Winton Raceway" pointing to generally a right direction.

I am sure the direction is vague enough.
