I fitted a K&N panel not too long ago. Butt dyno says there's no difference in performance although it does feel a bit smoother in the mid-range. Could just be psychological though. A slight difference in sound makes it a bit throatier, but no massive differences here either. I did notice that fuel economy did improve though - where I was getting around 300km from a tank (I always fill @ 1/4), I am now getting around 350.

I got mine purely for the fact that i wouldnt have to pay mazda any more money to replace the stock filter down the line, as the K&N has a one million mile warranty. The deeper induction note is a nice by product though......
Drewman, can i ask how much u payed for the Typhoon? Is it worth it? It certainly looks good when installed!

I've had my K&N filter for over 20,000 miles for a little over a year no problems. Just cleaned it for the first time too.

I don't think there is any gain to the filter over the mazda filter. The only reason i bought it was so i would not have to buy a new filter every service, saves $$ in the pocket.

Some have said that the oil type filters allow some oil to go through the intake which is ok for the engine but can get the maf sensor dirtier faster. I don't mind it though because i like to clean that thing every time i clean the air filter with some MAF sensor spray cleaner. I notice better idle and fuel economy every time i do that anyway, more than anything else.

About the typhoon kit said about 2 posts higher, i have also heard that you could actually loose a small amount of power over stock especially with the very early typhoon kit. There is a bunch of threads on the forum about this. Here is one: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...mp%3BN+typhoon Really there such a small gain in power from any intake system with the rx8 other than forced injection, that i don't find it worth it. The only real gains are cosmetic from popping the hood for a show car and thats not really what i'm after but to each there own.

Umm ... you're supposed to clean them every 10000km.

I have a K&N Pod ... and I haven't cleaned it because I'm slack, and don't really feel like pulling the airbox out of my car :P

The typhoon kit is worse because it is exposed to hot air. I have written a thread for that (search HKS intake).

I think panel is ok, if you clean it frequently oil type is fine, but I am lazy.

I am thinking of getting a TRD one for my Kluger

Stick a pod in the box ... it's even better than a panel, and you can get rid of those mesh things
