Well done Mazfix and Archie
Well done Mazfix and Archie
The RX8 did well amongst some stiff opponents in the Motor Mag' Extreme Tuner Challenge. Among a field of 22 monster cars(some with over 400rwkw's) the RX8 did well to get the 7th best lap time,6th in the 100-0kph braking distance, and 5th in the bang for buck ranking.
The car was driven from Queensland before doing a Dyno, drag, braking, and lap time test. Then kaned all day at the RX8 Nationals and then driven back to Queensland. Proving how reliable his Turbo package must be. No other RX8 tuners fronted up and I doubt whether their kits could have taken such abuse IMHO.
Archie did the RX8 fraternity proud I think showing that handling and braking is a huge part of a great car and not just outright power and that double the kw's and torque in the RX8 is reliably possible finally. Can somebody lend me $20k now??

Motor should be on sale today.
I was up there with the APR/DMS Squad[drove one of the cars down from QLD]
Archie's car punched well above it's weight both days, and humbled a lot of big kw cars in the process.
Check out the suss looking guy in the purple[Whiskas-for you Dave]jacket on pages 71 and 79.....I'm everywhere.
And the comment on the APR Golf on page 42 being like a Sierra Cosworth on crack was mine.....
I'll get Dave to sue for copyright or something....
Good couple of days at the Track-beats working!
Cheers
Len

I bought it this morning and checked it out on the bus ride in.
Was going to note the sus looking bloke in a familiar purple jacket lurking around but Len beat me to it.
This is a great feature. 22 very interesting and disparate cars ranging from a 911 GT2 ($455K) to a heavily breathed on Polo ($47K). Compare the laptimes (7th x2), apex speed (5th), braking (6th) and kerb weight (2nd) to the straight line speed and power results (averaging around 17th) - the Mazfix car basically inverts those two performance categories, showing what a great track car it is with decent power added.
Everything that beat it was a more expensive total package, in most instances by a large margin, which is probably why it also did so good in the BFYB category (5th). Judge's scores also very revealing - Bowe, who I probably respect the most, gave it a 4th in very tough company - even though he thinks it's ugly.
A great advertisement for the kind of kits Archie and Hymee are putting on the market with only long term reliability being the question mark...something Archie's car is well on the way to answering positively.
Arch. Great job.

Well Done Archie.
For those that are unaware, info on his kit can be found here: http://www.mazfix.com.au/perfproducts/rx8_upgrades.html
I understand Archie's kit is Stage 1. However, he has upgraded brakes and suspension.
