Mazfix
For those of you getting your rides serviced at Mazfix
When i owned a RX8 i organized to get the 1st Racing Beat Airbox sent to Australia for evaluation with Jim Tanner owner (RACING BEAT ) after numerous calls to the USA we finally came to an arrangement .
Seeing that Archie from MAZFIX was his closets distributor Jim agreed to get the RB Airbox sent to Mazfix for them to fit it on TO my car so i could evaluate it and give feed back to the RX8 FORUM MEMBERS .
After informing Archie of my agreement with Jim Tanner , and asking him to let me know when the Airbox arrived , when i hadnt heard from him for a while 2 weeks i rang Mazfix .
He told me yes the Airbox had arrived and he had installed it on his own RX8 ............WTF .
Any how a report on the Airbox was never made to the Australian RX8 FORUM MEMBERS and Archie made no consequent sales .(******* )
"Talk about bitting of your nose to spite your face "
Needless to say the guy totally lost me after that episode he showed me his true colours .
He also got a friends car DAVE (CAIO) and copied his Turbo manifold and started making up his shitty Turboed RX8 at a rip off price .
Anyhow i get great pleasure telling this to anyone whos prepared to listen .
The guy comes accross as caring and honest but his a little weasel
TAKA EDIT: Please note the Racing Beat response HERE

I just checked their prices, you're right ... they sound like they're ripping everyone off!
Plus, the turbo system probably is a copy ... I wonder whether the original designer of this system has a right to sue them for copying their patent?

I've met the Mazfix guys a few times at Nationals, etc. They all seemed like ok people to me and I haven't heard anything bad from their other customers. Then again, I haven't had any commercial dealings with them either.
Anybody else out there have a bad experience with them?
Heres a reply to the same thread i posted on fdrx7.com from Craysus a well known trusted rx7 forum member , judge for yourselfs as to what a nice guy he really is

I had dealing with them back when they were in Toowoomba!
Cut corners, goods incorrectly sold to me (EG a rebuilt engine that was not rebuilt!, a High flow s5 turbo that turned out to be a stock standard series 4 turbo, inline fuses used on a microtech install that were so cheap they intermittently had the spring loosen internally and lose contact / power, **** paint work (When I paid for top quality), paid for a s5 turbo box, received an rx5 box with some dodgy welds on the top to change its length for the shifter, and the list goes on....
Suffice to say..first hand experience of him being the DODGIEST ***** known to mankind...
lol

Your his friend and in your own words "Archie doesnt discount for anyone ", i was allways aware that he shafted me on the Airbox but kept it to myself thinking that hes action may have been a one off, but recently talking to various people i have realised that it wasnt the case .
Just look at what other people are saying and open your eyes .
Heres another unhappy customer one off many i am hearing about the Gold coast Brisbane rotary world is small and eventually people wake up and speak up .

This forum member is almost content with them
havnt bought parts off them, but I have mine serviced with them a few times. They seemed to be genuine with me? and gave me discounts on coming back as a loyal customer and what not.
A bit pricey on labour thats for sure, but I had no problem with the quality of work with my pwr fmic & rad install with custom piping for factory airbox etc.
Dunno...Like I said, I've never bought parts or had any rebuilds etc done there so I guess I cant say for sure.

Old habits die hard....I'm finding myself drifting in and out of the forum and I couldn't help but comment on this. It's sad that this couldn't be raised earlier in the piece, but there was obviously a good reason for that.
We've all got a story of being ripped off in some shape or form, it happens to all of us every day of the week. I guess its also a personal thing and it comes down to the magnitude, and how far one wants to take it.
With the hits I've been taking lately, I'm now finding its best to let sleeping dogs lay, and karma will even things out in the end. Theres my sermon for the day, and I hope everyone else is going OK.....

wow dunno i jus had my rx8 there to have a starter motor replaced etc, seemed alright to me, bit pricey on labour i wont argue with that, but thought as a rotor specialist thats what i gotta pay for right?
where else could an rx8 owner take his car in brisbane to have serviced etc? other than rip off Mazda service yards.

Michael your links only work if you're a member - doesn't that forum allow non-members to read threads?
It would also help if you identified what is a quote from someone else and what isn't in your posts.
Yes, I know you think all that kind of thing is ****, yada yada yada but it really does make it easier to read.
Col, interested in your take on all this. You don't have to buy into it more than you have done of course but it raises some pretty serious allegations about MazFix's reputation...

Let me start by saying I dont work for Mazfix!! I have a financial involvement in Mazfix drag racing merchandise and i sponsored his drag car for this financial year. Other than getting all the work on my own RX8 done there that is all i have to do with Mazfix.
As you stated Dave this is a pretty serious accusation made by Michael so some questions need to be answered.
1. If this happened so long ago, why did erx8s or grizzly 8 as he was known in a former life only bring this up now?
2. Why did erx8s or grizzly 8 give such glowing reviews on the Mazfix turbo and service and even recommend people only to now say it is a sh**y turbo?
3. I know for a fact Jim Tanner is a very good friend of Archies, could it be a simple misunderstanding between Jim/Archie/Michael?
4. Michael you have had ample opportunity to speak to Archie in person about this (nats, cruises, phone etc) why now do you post it on a public forum in such a sladerous manner?
Archie is a friend of mine, however we do have our differences when it comes to running a business and business practices etc. One thing i know is they do quality work which is evident by the workshop constantly full of new and repeat customers.
It is the nature of the business that you will obviously have some unhappy customers but i wonder how many times people jump on a public forum before going straight to the source to air their concerns.
I have not spoken to Archie for a few weeks as i have been snowed under with my own business but will endeavour to do so in the coming days to get his take on the situation.
sorry bout the long rant!
Cheers Col

I have no direct knowledge of Mazfix's work or business practices, but I have met Archie and seen his work. He's been in business for a while and my experience is that you don't stay in business with bad workmanship or by ripping people off.
In my opinion, this thread needs to be locked and probably deleted. There are other rotary forums that tolerate the sort of hearsay/third part allegations, but I reckon this forum has maintained its reputation by minimising that sort of crap.

Michael,
Racing Beat says....
As this thread remains closed. I have posted email from Jim Tanner @ Racing Beat to me.

I would appreciate the opportunity to respond to the false allegations made by one "Michael aka Lock & Load aka erx8s" wherein he tosses my name out freely while simultaneously disparaging the professional reputation of one of our trusted Distributors, Maz-Fix.
When we first introduced the RX-8 REVI Intake Kit nearly four years ago, I received a number of phone calls from both existing customers and potential customers domiciled in Australia concerning the compatibility of this component on the Australian-delivered, right-hand drive chassis. Because Racing Beat does not have ready access to these chassis in the United States I suggested that these customers contact either Select Maz in Melbourne or Maz-Fix in Brisbane, depending upon the callers' geographic locations (if at all practical), and arrange for a fitment/performance evaluation. Simultaneously, I contacted these two established Racing Beat Distributors and offered our cooperation. Maz-Fix took the initiative and immediately requested a unit for a fitment/performance evaluation and subsequently, over the last four years, has imported these on a regular basis. Based on Maz-Fix's independent confirmation of correct fitment, as well as significant performance enhancement, we then directed inquiries to Maz-Fix for local assistance with ordering.
The claim made by "Michael aka Lock & Load aka erx8s" that
is false. At no time has Racing Beat delivered a REVI Intake Kit Racing Beat to Maz-Fix on behalf of any specific retail customer, let alone on the personal behalf of "Michael aka Lock & Load aka erx8s" . Frankly, I have no idea who this individual is.
We have had the genuine pleasure of doing business with many Australians over the course of nearly four decades and we consider a number of these connections to be not only long-standing business relationships, but also lasting friendships as well. I have personally visited Australia on several occasions and have had the opportunity to witness first-hand the ingenuity and the resourcefulness of our fellow rotary enthusiasts; You have our respect and admiration. Australia is a beautiful country! We enjoy the visits to Racing Beat by your fellow Australians during their "holidays" and always do our very best to handle their needs and remind them that they are always welcome at Racing Beat. Furthermore, Over the course of the last fifteen-plus years that we have worked with the staff of Maz-Fix they have proven themselves time and time again to be a professional operation with integrity and accountability. Maz-Fix most certainly is not deserving of the false allegations made by "Michael aka Lock & Load aka erx8s"
