Not sure what you're on about but I was talking Cat back as is the issue at hand here. Never trying to convince people L and RHD drive cars are identical in all aspects.

If everything is reverse, I thought so does the tyres....

Just my $0.02 and poor humour

Sorry if it did not work for you.

Is that why they always runs red light into the intersections and having stand still traffic when the green lights are on.

well their tranny is different for starters and their steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car! OMG WTF!?

ok enough jokes but its something to do with the alignment or something ive read in the american posts. gotta dig it up and i am so not stuffed.

Ive decided not to install the exhaust till i get the tips extended 3-4 inches

hopefully it will cost about $100 or so to get it done and change the tips too!

UPDATE:

Went to Performance Exhaust Centre and discussed options to ge the tips extended. Instead of cutting off the tips, wendling on an extension and then rewelding the tips, theyre gonna just cut off the tips and use 1 really long tip to extend it out 2-3 inches.

They were nice enough to deal with and seem to know what they were talking about!

They will ring me back on monday with some prices!

Update again soon!

question...

would it be a smarter idea to trail fit the exhaust, and see exactly how much you need to extend the pipes/exhaust tips?

I had fun listening to mine this morning.

Mind you, got buzzed while sailing off Sydney Heads by a low flying F/18 yesterday. Scared five colours of poop out of me . Now THAT's an exhaust noise!

Ensure the new tips line up with the rear bumper and there is decent gap between the bumper and the end of the tip So when gets hot it isnt close enough to melt. If they stick out a little bit more thats even better

Thats what im doing darl!

I got mine off eBay! It was the only one I saw which is why i jumped it like a virgin locked in the same room with jenna jameson! If you find any other exhausts that go for that price be sure to let everyone know!
Thanks,
DrewMan

Hi DrewMan, I have the TurboXS cat-back exhaust system as well....the melting issue was highlighted to me by another RX-8 owner who had melted his and contacted me via e-bay to give me a heads up ....glad he did....anyhow....the below text and images are from a reply I sent to him after rectifying the issue....

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Craig, firstly, thankyou so much for bringing the exhaust issue to my attention. Late last week I got the car up on the hoist and inspected my bumper guards. Although they had not deformed or melted, they did indeed show signs of being subjected to excessive heat. Beginning at the tip of each outlet was surface discolouration and hairline cracking. I thought I had taken a photo of this but I hadn't...sorry. Even though the damage was minor, I believe it would just be a matter of time before I subjected the bumper guards to just that bit too much heat...and wound up with a gooey mess like yourself or even a fire at the very worst!!!
Here are some photos of the exhaust installed on my 8.

I really do like the sound and look of the exhaust so I decided to have the outlets extended. I had the tips cut where they were welded to the 3" tube and a 3" extension welded in between to get the tip out to where it should be. I wasn't too concerned about having extra TIG weld on each side, but my contractor couldn't help himself and linished & polished the extra welds!!! The job he did was absolutely top notch!!! I only re-fitted it this evening. I checked the temperature of the bumper guards when I got home and they were so much cooler than before!!! It has really solved the problem. Refer to the below photos.

Regards,
Danny

Are the silencers "detachable"? ie can you just take them out and put them back in? or are they ruined once you take them out?

it'd be a good idea to use loctite or some sort so the bolt will actually stay where it supoosed to stay....
i have lost a slicener on the mr2 when i have used the allen key to tighten it..... hope it didnt fly off to quickly and hit the car behind...
