Big Thanks To The 'mez

I hereby publicly thank Gomez who fixed my problem of rattling short shifter by changing the black bottom shoe to the one that Hymee sent me 2 weeks ago. It was to rattle like crazy at 8000-9000 rpm.

It is all quiet at 9000rpm and I rely on the shift light not the rattling noise for the upshift

Thanks mate

No not yesterday. I promised Russell I would go up and help him with his car. He has a race meet coming up in a few weeks so wanted some testing time for sorting out his suspension.

Besides I spent all of Saturday on the skidpan and was still feeling the physical affects of that... Oh my poor rear tyres. Boy did they take an absolute beating. I also promised myself an oil change before any more track time so I did resist the temptation, and believe me the temptation was certainly there!

Well Russell's Datsun is a naturally aspirated 1.6 litre engine with Quad throats, a lumpy cam, straight through exhaust, button style clutch, roll cage and weighs just 900kg. It was a blast to be a passenger in. Low tech but very fast & fun. I believe so far his car has cost him a tad over $23K to purchase & put together... Although he does most the work himself.

The original MX5 could easily be done up similiar for probably less money and would be just as much if not more fun. **** I have seen good Quad throats setups available for NA MX5's for $250.00

Heh heh heh, this is what I'm discovering. You can pick up a reasonably well sorted NA MX5 for circa $15K (a bit more if you want a FI jobbie).

And you end up with a car you don't mind thrashing because replacements won't cost you an arm and a leg. Eg. new starter motor = $100 for the NA.

Put it this way - it's a good option if you don't have the budget to write off your 8.
