Sydney Springs
Hi All,
Looking at purchasing a set of Springs for the rx8 to compliment the 20 inch wheels currently have on the car.
Don't want to spoil the ride quality too much. Basically just want the springs for looks (not performance) whilst keeping the stock shocks.
After some level of research, I'm now looking at either the Tein S-Tech or Eibach Pro Kit.
Will probably go with Tein due to the price. I'm looking at getting a good deal on these Springs.
The following link references two online stores in the US that Sydney people have dealt with regarding S-Tech:
https://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1246
www.rx7store.net
www.dpeweb.com
I can't seem to find an international shipping capability on the DPE site let alone the cost of shipping the product to Oz.
Not sure whats going on there.... any ideas?
anyone from syndey had any experiences with any other good online sites that stock tein/eibach?
Got afew quotes from various Sydney suppliers for $390-$420 for S-Tech.
Ebay prices (including shipping) vary between $290-$320US ~ $375-$415AUD for S-Tech (not much difference compared with local prices)
The rx7store however returned a quote of $169 + $25 Shipping = $194.00US ~ $250AUD .. any dealt with these guys before?
This seems very cheap. Does this seem right?
Also anyone have Tein S/Eibach with feedback? Anyone have 20inch wheels and aftermarket springs with feedback?
Cheers,
Mo

I'd go with the Tein S-tech. No real reason, just that I prefer Tein's.
I have 20" rims with Tein Flex coilovers btw.

thanks for the advise kunz,
nice wheels btw
just had a look at spring rates and based on figures alone it looks like the best spring for height/spring rate (comfort) compromise is Tanabe NF (biggest drop with closest match spring rates to stock).
Stock: 156/113
Tanabe NF: 162/112 - Drop = 1.4"/1.2"
Tanabe GF: 179/146 - Drop = 1.4"/1.2"
Tein S-Tech: 207/145 - Drop = 1.4"/0.7"
Eibach: 180/130 - Drop = 1.2"/1.2"
Tein H-Tech: 179/129 - Drop = 1.0"/0.3"
Mazdaspeed: 280/190 - Drop = 0.8"/0.8"
Wonder if I can find a local dealer that stocks them.
Given up on online buying .. dont have enough confidence in the idea.

MissyK is right
the Konig Unknowns in the avatar pic
I'd love to have my 8 as low as yours Eric .. Looks like a 2.5" drop from the front and a 2.75" drop from the back
I just don't know how you can live with the ride quality though.
Also heard how Kmacs and King can destroy the stock shocks over time...
Im rolling on 20's atm with stock springs and its quite bumpy (but livable)
Sydney Roads are just terrible .. esp out west ..
The aftermarket springs im looking at offer 1.4" drop max
might need to get the guards lipped at tempe ...

Ive been in Ezzys 8 when he was in sydney and omg yes stupid syd roads but now hes in Melbourne and the ride is a lot better!! Either that or im just used to it by now.. lol
I have 19s, and previously had kings superlows and the ride was fairly bumpy. Then changed to eibachs and did notice the ride was a lot better. But I also had koni shocks.
Any aftermarket springs will not be good longterm for factory shocks...... not just kmacs and kings.
I now have coilovers.. are you able to look into coilovers?? That way you dont have to worry about ur factory shocks. The prices of coilovers arent much more expensive. You can get the D2 ones or the ones that myself and auzoom have (racing logics). Or look into the mazdaspeed shocks and springs that revolver has got, its about the drop you want.
really depends on how long you want to keep the car.... if it doesnt bother you keeping the stock shocks, then id say eibachs purely since ive had them and was happy, but tein has good reputation also. otherwise get coilovers, height adjustible, u can chose something that you are comfortable with and might not even have to roll the guards.
anyways just my opinion!

yes 2.5" front and 2.75" rear. i dont drive it on daily bases, so it is very liveable. yes, sydney has crap roads, melb is much better (most roads!)
you can always look into whiteline springs, they should have the 30mm drop springs available by now.
the koni shocks and aftermarket springs works well after a few drives in missy's 8 IMO.
looks like i will be passing the 8 to the gf (or the "hand-me-downs" as she'd call it... ), so i will most likely looking into the coilover for her.... may have to take missy's 8 out for a few times to see if it is worth the "trouble". *hint* *hint*

I order from DPE all the time. I have built a friendship with Phil the owner and have found his service to be the best. His shipping rates are the best I have ever seen out of the US and are normally 20-40% better than others freight quotes.
Just pick up your phone and call him. He's a great guy and bends over backwards for his customers!

For what it's worth, I've been happy with my MS shocks and springs.
On bad roads it can be a bit of a pain but the ride is better than some sports cars I've ridden in previously. The drop is also easier to live with than something more extreme like Eric's car.
The MS shocks and springs are also good buying if you get them from onlinemazdaparts.com. I've demonstrated that you can get them landed and installed for under $1,500 AUD.
If you go for coilovers, definitely speak to auzoom. He did a lot of research before plumping for the Racing Logics.

That is true, should increase to the proportion of the shortening of the spring.
But too much drop and too much increase will cause mismatch of the damper of the shock and may cause premature failing. No worries, there is always a Tein coilover for you

With 20inch wheels, the car is already raised slightly compared to stock. Bottoming out with Tanabes might not be a problem but maybe the wheels touching the guards might be.
Not sure about coilovers, they look like they are targeted more for track and my car (with 20's) will be more for street and the springs will be merely for looks only. Plus I can't afford them.
I'm going to Thailand this summer. Maybe I can find me a nice set of Eibach/Tein/Tanabe while im there ...
Thanks for all the feedback ppl...
