Strange place for an oil leak?

These are pics of my rear bumper (ignore the fact that it's filthy!).

Any idea where the oil would've come from? I suspected maybe the diff, but it doesn't seem to be leaking, plus it's too far forward and the oil doesn't smell like diff oil.

Maybe it's not from my car at all, but just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

Thanks.

That is not oil... it was me when I saw your car...

Heh... it's probably something from another car, there's no way for diff fluid to be there.

Taste test?

Seriously, it looks like it's come from an external source to me. Best thing to do would be to clean it all up and then see if it reappears...

I don't know how things work where you guys come from, but jizz and dog **** aren't very oily in these parts. It did taste a bit tangy though

Seriously though, thanks for the responses (I think?). I am pretty sure the oil came from an external source. There is no other sign of an oil leak, plus my wife drove the car the day before I noticed the oil so only God knows what she backed into... at least I know I don't need a rebuild

No work done on the fuel pump, it's not fuel and it's definitely not ****

The exhaust really doesn't look that bad. The photo makes it look a lot worse.

In the past couple of weeks the car has ALWAYS been garaged, at home and at my wife's work, so there was no chance of an animal coming anywhere near it unless a dog decided to **** its leg while running up behind it while stopped at a set of lights.

It's definitely oil - still can't find the source but I am pretty sure it's external. Pretty weird spot even for something to splash up onto it though.

So you say it's oil..................do you have a bottle or two of oil in your trunk? Only thing I can think is that maybe it's leaking???????

Well the closest source will be the diff? Would you agree?

Fuel pump is very close to the rear seats... I doubt that.

Have you tried washing it off and then seeing if it returns?

Yeah, I washed it off and it hasn't returned. I think it's safe to say that it came from an external source which wasn't a dog, cat or *****

Thanks again for the responses.
