My clutch is almost done, getting it done tomorrow. Anyone have that done yet, and know of a full clutch replacement price?

The clutch cro? Why buy mazda's clutch. Get something like taka's for the same price and it has a lightened fwheel on it. Go any where else and labour is definitely cheaper and quality would surpass mazda too.

unless you were referring to the 80K service, sydney prices tend to be sh!thouse so your bound to get something better than 450.

Hey can someone confirm, was told fuel filter is done at 150k on our cars? Should I be doing it sooner?

Yeah, I was more referring to the 80k service. I'll probably be due in the next month or so ...

... I'd do the fuel filter every 50000km like I used to do on my other car. The first time I did it it was a major performance boost because it had never been changed before!

I'd probably go for a Daikin/Exedy heavy duty clutch when I need to replace it, just out of habit ...

Ric installed an Exedy heavy duty single plate clutch on mine, the feel is great, but in traffic its not the worse, but its enough to make bumper to bumper traffic my worse nightmare.

HAHA ... I know the feeling, my other car had the heaviest clutch for traffic, the left leg would creep up until the clutch started engaging lol. And on cold mornings I used to get shaky leg syndrome because of it!

80k Breakdown:
Insulation to airbag - $36
Clean out brass material from RL brake caliper (dust build up causing insanely weird noises) - $90
Check as per service, replace oil/filter-pollen-diffoil-brake fluid - $234
TOTAL LABOUR $360
-Oil (castrol magnatec) $50
-Diff oil $15
-Brakefluid oil $10
-fuel injection cleaner $13
-filter cooling unit $46
-Coolant $33
-Oil filter $13
-Consumables & Waste $15
TOTAL PARTS = $195

What is a filter cooling unit?
If I'm charged for fuel injection cleaners, wouldn't there have had to be a 'CLEANED FUEL INJECTORS' as part of the service? Cause it doesn't note it. Or have I been charged for items that were never used? I was told what was part of the service, and that definitely wasn't.

In-between service

I had a service done at 25000 as it was 6 months from it's 20000 service and I had a few small issues I wanted checked.

Bridgewater Mazda in South Australia changed the oil, updated the OS, did the full set of checks and inspections, roadtested the car and then rotated the tires to lessen/fix a tire noise issue, topped up what need it and bought me a coffee.

I waited while they did it and the cost was $135.

I had my 60K service done at City Mazda (Melbourne) just before I sold the car.

5 litres MRO..............$70
Sump Plug gasket....$1.25
Oil Filter....................$12.50
Air Filter....................$92!!
Enviro Levy...............$8
Labour (2.5hrs)........$270
GST...........................$45

Total.........................$499

Now there's no way there's 2.5hrs labour in a 60K service (especially sans a fuel filter change). I noted also the labour rate increase without fleet discount (out of lease). Labour went up from $72/hour during my 50K service to $108/hour for this service.

That's a bloody 50% increase!! I argued until I was blue in the face, but Rita insisted that this service is a 2.5hr job and that's what they charge. I needed their stamp in my book as I had a punter coming to look at the car on the weekend. I caved in and paid up.

Suffice to say, I won't be going back there to buy my next RX-8.

Thanks for the memories, City Mazda....

A filter (cooling unit) is a cabin air filter. There are actually two of them located above the glovebox.

Many dealers put injector cleaner in as a matter of course. If you believe the fuel companies, their Premium Unleaded has a cleaner built in, therefore negating the need to clean your injectors.

I don't bother with injector cleaner. I've been running my injected XR8 Falcon for ten years on Premium Unleaded.....no issues at all. Still pulls like a 14 year old.

I don't think I'll go back to my dealer again either, I'm finding the service department more and more ornery to deal with. Plus, even with the "loyalty" discounts they're supposed to give me, they still charge me more than normal. I'm auditing my services ... I think they're charging me at the wrong rate.

In fact, I may change to another dealer altogether!

I'd love to see the breakdown of that service, 'cause a new flywheel and install costs come in under $1000 and that leaves $800 for the service!

From memory the 80k service includes new spark plugs (at Mazda pricing there's $400+ alone).

Cheers.... Otto
