Sat Navigation is in Australia

Today after my wheels got fitted i saw a yellow rx8 with a alpine tv fitted to the fatory navigation spot. It looks so good. At the light i spoke to him and i asked
how much it cost, he told me that fitting alone cost 2000+
so i guess if you guys want a sat nav it will cost you 6000+
he did it in bondi junction somewhere so if anyone is keen to get it done then you can go check it out yourself

Exactly, whats the point of buying one if the factory one is cheaper, you'd just be wasting money.

cheers,

That is right. There is no such option in Australia. It will be good to track down if the factory in Japan has it. I think it is not sold seperately as the cars in Japan needs to do it on the line. However, I am sure there is a way. Especially in a year or so there will be a wrack RX-8 in Japan with sat nav function. Or one in US... then it is easy to get all the components to do it.

We asked Mazda about importing the all the componentry from Japan to do the factory install here, and were told 10- 15 K installed... but they'd have to pull the headlining of the roof out, and most of the dash, and they couldn't guarantee it'd be rattle free.... etc etc

so we went nahhh.. we'll just get a Navman and then we can use it in both cars

Hey Hymee,

What is it exactly that you do?
And where?

I used to work for 2 companies building in car navigation myself
Before I started at Boeing.

I used to design all the hardware and write all the firmwre.
