Rx8 R3 on TV on Sat.
Hi Guys,
I was just sitting at home watching my washing dry and i flipped over to this car show on channel 10 (ten). Liking all things on four wheels i decided to have a squiz. It wasnt actually all that bad - or perhaps my standards have flopped after watching AUS Top Gear lol.
Anyway, this saturday they advertised a fast lap in the new Rx8 R3 if anyone is interested in watching it.
Here are the details:
TV Show Name: TEST DRIVE
Broadcast Date: Saturday 20 June 2009
Channel: Free to Air / Ten
Broadcast Time: 2.30 pm
Regards,

it was just the RX8 GT going around their test track from a standing start. they talked it up a lil calling it a "dark horse" b/c of its engine size and saying "it can reach revs of 9000RPM". i thought it had engine rev limiter at 9500 ?
time it ran was 1:17 which came second to the new EVO at 1:14. however, in watching how they were driving it on their show, they weren't driving it like a rotary should be. guy driving shifted into 4th at only 120km/hr instead of taking it upto at least 140km/hr before shifting, therefore not using the full rev potential and the full power potential.
i've only got a RX8 '04 and my engine limiter is at 9500 so why would they restrict the newer GT model to less revs ? Specially when peak power is at 7000+. Wierd....
anyone with new '09 GT like to comment on their max revs and when peak power is ?

Yeah, I saw that too. His launch was pretty shoddy and I think he hit 100km/h in around 8 seconds. It's a crap show. I wouldn't take anything they say or do too seriously.

higher you run the revs, the higher you can catch the revs into the next gear and keep the power high. hence running to 9,000 then changing is good to catch the revs at 5,000 or more and stay in powerband ;-)

OK...You have a straight with a nice right hand turn that you know you have to come out of in 2nd gear to stay in the torque band, you approach the 300m to go mark at 8000 rpm in 3rd gear. The question is, do you:
1) push the car all the way to the end of its power band and shift up to 4th for those last 200m before you have to shift back into 2nd?
2) push through those last 200m in the less than optimum 8500-9500 rpm range? or
3) at the 500m mark short shift to 4th to keepo the car in its "upward" power band?
I think you will find that the drivers here used #3.
