guys, i have been an Amsoil fan for 20 years of my racing life and with great results. i have used 20w50 in the rotarys and also gear lube in diffs and boxes.
now i have started to use the other good oil !!!! Redline oil also from the US.
i use it now in sprint races and in the 24hr stuff i've done at Bathurst.
why?? because the poms put me on to it in Germany when i went over for my first Nurburg 24 hr race. so many poeple in europe use it its not funny.
and so now i go of my own experiences as an engine builder and driver/car owmer. i have seen the amazing results and dont need any oil salesman to do the hard sell on me.
one story to tell is when i did the GTP race in S.A early this year in the rx7 serises 8 rs and after leading off pole position with a new lap record i split a plastic radiator tank. as i build my own engines and didnt want to loose my lead i ignored the water temp alarm and kept going. cooked the engine as never before but finished the race in 2nd with on water left for last two laps.
well the internals melted and the oil cooked but every oil feed part was 100 % reusable !!!! the oil worked. i was sold on Redline and now use it in the rx and also piston cars.
i'm running it i the rx8 now. realy good in the gear box .

Not me in Mallalla, although I drove past it yesterday on the way to help save the world from running out of potatos and onions (and to keep the Americans in supply of ultra-premium export only shiraz labels).

engine oil for race use "race 50 W "
street engines i use 40 w . these oils flow as 10w 40 or 10w 50.gear box "shock proof light " [ blue oil ] for synchro boxes. 'shock pfoof heavy {red oil} for dog boxes. diffs we normaly use shock proof heavy.

Hi all im new here also but i do have to agree with Rick in the redline oil , i swear by it in my previous car which was r32 gtr , i would definatly use it in the gearbox and the diffs , especially if ur slamming into gears it definatly absorbs the impact and gives less wear and tear , but i have to admit as for rotarys i just got my first rotary the rx8 happy with it but they definatly lack in power , so just a quick question are they restricted in any way that can be unrestricted by any simple mods, ur expertise is greatly apreciated

he may have been on this forum a lot longer and may have more posts than me but just because he may have won your respect doesnt mean he has earned mine but he may have to learn to respect all if he wants all to respect him back , just because im new on this forum may not have to jump into conclusions that im new to forums. he has more posts than me or any other new member doesnt make himself any better than anyone else, there are alot of people that just read and sit back , looks like he may have tought u more about oils but still has alot more to learn about respect remember just my $0.02 worth just like yours

I understand where you're coming from, but you have misread Hymee's tone and intention.
He is not only a well liked and respected member of the Australian section, but he's the moderator too. Slagging people just isn't his style. He makes a useful suggestion - there really is plenty of discussion going on in the sections he rceommends.

Welcome to the forums! Perhaps that is what I should have started with. I think my message has been misinterpreted. I was in no way slaging you off. My appologies if that is what you read into it. Maybe your involvement in other forums has lead you to be defensive about what you write, but I don't think you should be too worried about that here. I have found them to be a great bunch of like minded car enthusiasts.
Ric does bring a wealth of information to these forums. Indeed his is inital posting on this thread was about some of the work he is doing to improve the RX8's performance anyway. I also value his opinion.
The RX-8's are very new, and there is still a great deal to be learnt about them. I was merely pointing out that you can find out as much as anyone else by spending some more time looking around. I was not saying that you should not have asked that of Ric. In fact, it did not seem a direct question just to him.
Please don't judge me on my number of posts, nor should you feel threatend that you have a small number. It is the quality of the posts that is important. There are members here who have thousands of posts - many of them one liners such as "Show us the pics". That does not mean they are any more or any less welcome here. And the same goes for you. BTW - I don't consider my post count terribly high. It is about 1/2 of my tally on the LS1 forum. And I started there with 1 post, just the same as here.
We all enjoy quality contributions, and lots of fun. If I find anyone abusing you for no reason, I can arrange to have them banned. And that equally applies to everyone else here.
So sit back, relax, have fun, and learn as much as you like, or contribute as much as you like.

if your last car was a R32 GTR why did you move to a high revving rotary? If you drive the 8 like you drove the R32
it will always seem slow and underpowered.

Back on thread about bolt-ons / performance... We are doing a cat-back exhaust tomorrow, and will post pics and before/after dyno results for everyone to digest.
BTW - I have never owned a forced induction vehicle - but I thought they would like revs as well?? Or is that less of an issue in a Skyline as it is a larger capacity motor (being a 6)?
I don't mind being learned about things

dont get me wrong they are a awsome car they also rev out v high at 9200rpm but in my case i had an electrical fire in it that caused a fire and burnt out and then seeing so many of them on the streets after having it for about 5 yrs there were so many they ended up being like taxis, and as soon as i saw the rx8 i thought that was an awsome looking car, with the handling to match for a factory car. I know its not as easy to extract the power out of these things but i think an rx8 with about the 300-350hp will be a very lethal street car with the looks to match.as for the (rb26) 2.6ltr engine believe me there isnt much difference in revving considering mine revved to 9200 very easy and many rev past 10,000rpm. as for the rotarys i must say im very impressed with the revving of these engines without struggle and that there is so much power to be released and many people under estimate these engines by thinking they only rev with no torque which is quite stupid eg F1 engines, and what i want to do is find then , surely these is an easy at least 50hp hidden in these without spending a cent. Eg factory gtr would do about low to flat 13s with say less than $100 u would pull a flat 12sec 1/4 mile very easily with the right setup and thats with the factory exhaust . Thats all i wanted to ask these $1000 cai is pathetic, alot of people thinking bigger is better but just has to be a perfect combination. i guess that is what i was trying to ask b4.
Coming from another forum there was a sticky saying free horsepower which i think is a great idea with people experimenting doesnt matter how big or small may start of with say mods under $100 or cost nothing and everyone can contribute by there own experiments and just adding in b4 everyone knows it we would probably end up finding these little hidden hp we should have got in the first place. sorry for the long thread just my thoughts

It would be great to get down to the 13's and 12's. But that is a massively long way from my 15 flat
I agree an extra 50HP would be great, infact that would be my first benchmark. It would nice if it was for free, but I won't hold my breath on that one. I'm not sure it would get me in the 13's though! 2 seconds is a lot.
Time will tell - with the help of lots of information sharing!
