$5,857.52 seems like a lot for a turbo kit. Maybe after a few companies have them on the market kits will be a little more reasonable like $3,500.

ROTOR MASTER's turbo rx-8

DAZ-13B.........where do I begin?!

Do you have any idea who you are being disrespectful to?

If I have to explain it to you, then you’re never going to get it!

As well as being one of the nicest, most honourable guys I've ever met, Ric is a legendary driver, with a proven track record, who is currently sticking it to the EVO8 and WRX brigade in an 8 year old car in the GTP class!

This is also the man that gave up a day of his time, free of charge, to assist mugs like me try and drive our RX8's a little better at the recent Rotary only Wakefield Park drive day!

Before you come into our house and slag off one of our finest, you might want to consider pulling your head out of your **** and understand who it is your talking about and if you still don't get it, PM him and knowing the guy, he will be only too happy to set you straight!

Sorry bud, but if anyone has embarrassed themselves with "stupid remarks" it would be you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey ya. Do YOU have any idea who you are being disrespectful to.?

Darrin is a guy that works tirelessly for Mazda. His status amongst the inner rotary circles is nationally known. This is the guy that gets all the hard to find rotary parts in from Japan. The guy that fights for the end user, (you) the guy that will bend over backwards to get your rotary parts to you at the cheapest price & in many cases, home deliver free of charge.

One would expect you to be smart enough to know that there are always two sides to everything. Why dont you PM him & I am sure he will be nice enough to explain what Ric Shaw did to a car of his some time ago.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back onto the turbo RX-8. This car just got even better today. The piggyback ECU (purchased from TCI & used by Rotor Master alone) was fine tuned even further to get a perfect idle & running platform. This now gives a linear torque graph from go-to-whoa

So far, there is a 20% top end gain but the best part is a near 50% mid range gain making driveability a complete driving pleasure. The installation developed & produced by Rotor Master alone is a credit to their expertise & should sell well.

Stay tuned for more.........

Before I read any more posts... I'm not sure what RIC has done to deserve that.

I will read on to learn more...

OK - I don't know anything about any of this, but everyone - please don't put any personal insults on here. I'm sure everyone respects different people for what they achieve for different reasons and in different ways.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Exclamation ROTOR MASTER's turbo rx-8

No prizes for second DMRH.........nice try at the save though!!!!!.....And as you quite clearly pointed out, I'm sure that there are two sides to the story about "the car" you alluded to.

Your little friend was the one that launched the disrespectful aspect to this thread sunshine! I'm sure DAZ-13B is everything you say he is, but unfortunately he's presented himself quite differently on this forum

By the way, the turbo looks awesome! Now how do I slide the $8k past the other half!

guys i have not ment any disrespect to any one and sometimes things come out wrong.
i am pissed off with the bitching by all. this site is not for that at all.
we all should stick to the facts and rx8 stuff in general.
so the facts are :
the ecu i developed, not Rotor Master, is being used and further developed on the RX8 turbo kit for all of us to enjoy.can you all please see that.
at the present Rotor Master are doing a great job and as they dont have the software to tune my ecu yet i have looked at it on thursday with joe and all is well.the ecu is available through me at Ric Shaw Performance or from Rotor Master with the turbo kit as a kit. i think it is great two workshops can pull together like this to develope a product for all of you. we all benefit. i have no time for competition between workshops and infact try hard to help and work with many.i have been at this for over 20 years and am only interested in making all things work for anyone.
we are now trying one of my mufflers on the test car and as i said the other day there is more work to be done. ifeel Rotor Master will quote the facts and figures when the job has been finished and so till then it is fair and honest for us all to not jump the gun with any more non facts. there is a big picture that is not seen by every one on the outside.
to all , feel free to PM me if you have a problem with what i have done or said.

I have no clue about turbos or rotaries in general, but isn't it a bad idea to have the turbo spooling at too low rpms?

I'm thinking about driving on the interstate doing 70mph using the cruise control at ~3500 the turbo would be spooling, generating heat and using more fuel.

Is it possible to "control" the turbo more to make sure it only spools up when you have e.g. 50% throttle or more?

hey guys we all get cranky at times.its all COOL. i have known Dav for 20 yrs i guess and go back to when he was a young boy with a gold RX3 i use to work on for him, it was a nice car. ahhh the good old days.
twospoons has asked a Q and at the 70 speed the throttle will be very little so the load also small and thus the boost low if any.the turbo will always be spinning up even if no boost is happening.fuel use will be mutch the same.
you cant make a turbo only work above a set throttle pos unless a relief valve is operating in relation to Trottle position. keep in mind that boost on light throttle means less need for throttle at that speed, the motor gets the same air supply with less throttle.

Wow! Sometimes just watching on this forum can be a great spectator sport :p :D

Ric, sounds like a great development, to be warched with interest. DMRH's reports of where the power & torque hit make it sound a great tourer.

My question: is it noisier? (a) in terms of induction/exhaust? (b) in terms of the turbo blow-off etc?

That's my (personal) dislike about turbo cars; they tend to sound hissy and asthmatic.

Any thoughts yet of warranty terms?

Spoken with Joe from ROTOR MASTER again today. The RM8 kit will be almost as quiet as the standard car. You have to understand that extra power means extra noise. Thankfully, Joe from ROTOR MASTER has kept this to the barest minimum.

The turbo blow off plumbs back into the intake circuit, so like standard production cars, its not perceptable.

Warranty is still being finalized but should be 6-month I suspect.

When I was offered the keys by Joe the other day, I took up on the offer taking the RX-8 turbo for a drive (again at Joes expense....:D ) the throttle response is excellent. It spools as quick as the twin turbos' from the FD RX-7. Boost starts from as little as 2000rpm. by 3000, its on strong.

The main advantage of the turbo is the mid-range punch. You simply do not need to rev the engine to 9000 any more. A little squirt to 6000 will have you rocketing away with a smile from ear to ear.

It really is that good guys. Joe has tuned the TSI piggyback ECU to perfection & the engine drives like standard when off boost.

I dropped in to Ric Shaw rotary a week ago and discussed the turbo upgrade with Ric. Regarding fuel system upgrades for this kit, the aim has been to keep the cost down so the guys have tuned the car at a power level that doesn't require injector or fuel system upgrades. Apparently Mazda were fairly generous with the injector and fuel system specs. Obvioulsly more power could be had from this kind of setup, but injector upgrades, a fuel line return circuit and upgraded pump would be required, which wasn't the aim this time around.

If I've remembered anything incorrectly there Ric feel free to correct me!

it's a sound move to keep costs down. I wonder what dutycycle the injectors are running at?
