Just to add to this topic on hot hatches and the MPS 3, I test drove it recently, and my gosh that thing is fun to drive. For comparative purposes, I have also driven a Megane 225 and a Golf GTi (my friend has one and I've had a chance to punt it around for extended periods of time). If you want refinement and a classy feel, the GTi is the go. But for outright thrills, I don't think any hatch gets hotter than the 3 MPS.
Yes it lacks a little refinement, yes i agree it wouldn't handle a track as well as many RWD and AWD-ers, and yes you could torque steer or understeer the thing into a bus if you weren't careful with the go pedal, but the sheer white-knuckled exhilaration of all that torque drilling your head into the drivers seat is incredible.
Yes this thing is an animal, and it feels totally wild and untamed... and call me crazy, but I absolutely loved it. If I was looking to buy a second car right now, this would probably be it.
