I purchased a pair of Sparco Sprint V's way back in July 2007 and they were taking too much space at home so I got stuck into designing adaptors to allow the Sparco's to utilise the standard NC rails. As per normal I designed them up in Solidworks.




Here are the finished items fitted between the seat and rails. If you are wondering why they have MX-5 Plus profiled in them, I approached the owner about having them as a product, having done other product development work for him previously. These are the only adaptors in existance at the moment.




....and the seats installed in the car.












The seats just clear the innards of the NC hardtop.




I really wanted to see how the car now sat with most of the powertrain installed in the car and the Tein Flex's fitted....and a hint of negative camber. :mrgreen:





....and that was March, 2008.

Excellent colour choice too.

Insiders have stated that the (possible) MX-5 rotary version was to be called the RX-5 (MX-5/RX-5) but I have also heard the MX-5R tag albiet some 5+ years ago.

When its completed, contacting some magazines such as "MOTOR" in Oz & RX-7 magazine in Japan would get the message out into the Mazda world of what the NC should be like.

I think most would agree there should have been a 13B-MSP option available the day the NC hit the streets

I'm staggered at the scope of this project. Danny, your attention to detail and willingness to attack each problem presented is a credit to you. And I'm glad you took the time to photograph it on the way through...and share it with us.

When it first came out the Blitz supercharger is 600000 Yen; the magazine described it as 1000Yen / PS, since there should be 60ps increase in power @ crank.

 

Is there any other colour than Winning Blue David? Me thinks not!

I totally agree! Mazda should have done an MX-5 MPS with the 13B-MSP....there is definitely a market for such a vehicle.


The progress report is not quite up to date yet....will post another log after this. I can't wait for a couple of major engineering projects to be completed so I can take some time-off and get back into it.


Hi Glenn, as I'm still a while away from completing the project I don't want to give too much away until I have driven her in anger and achieved my goal.



G'day Drew, no sale of children here ....just 15 years of hard work to get myself in a financial position to have a crack at a project such as this.

I will be unpacking the shipping container this weekend with all my goodies that I've been waiting for (some since last November ). This should give the project a few quick wins....as I mentioned above, work is swallowing what should be my spare time at the moment.


I bought the supercharger kit second hand for Y200,000 back in February. This excludes the shipping cost and duty. So it might work out to around Y4000 / PS....but most of all I'm looking forward to the increase in torque.

Due to work commitments and alike very little has happened since March. :frown:

So by July '08 the very little that had been achieved relates to the preliminary design work of the roll cage. The below bracket is part of the standard NC soft top frame. It also provides the structural tie for the standard roll bar as well as the B-pillar mounts for the removable hardtop. I have drawn it up in Solidworks as I will be integrating it into my roll cage (both the LH & RH brackets).

Someone's dropped a zero.... 60ps by Y4000/ps is Y240,000....allowing 40,000 for freight & duty on top of the Y200,000 I paid for the kit.

EDIT:... 200000 Yen is a bargin, but at the current rate it is about 3000$AUD? Cool.

 

Yeah Taka, luckily I paid for it back in February when the E/R was near on 100 Yen = 1 AUD.

I went into a work induced hibernation for the winter months...and arise in mid-August to complete the rear end.

Rear end sorted!!! Driveshafts are in!!!






For the first time in 7 months she is a roller! This is what 7 months of dust looks like .... she will get a wash very soon.




I really love its rear end...






Now that she's back on the ground, it is time to get on with the roll cage....of course when work allows!

Another step in the right direction was made in August with the tailshaft modifications being completed. I don't think I'm going to have a strength/whirling issue with this one .








...and installed!










As of today this is where I'm up to with the build...ie. nothing has happened since the end of August :cry: . The up-shot is that the container with a lot of the parts I've been waiting on has arrived. Will get some piccies up of the parts sometime this week.

Danny...I doffs me hat

This, my friends, is a work of art, in the sense that it has taken tremendous passion, together with a lot of blood, sweat and (possibly) tears!

The striking thing (and not to belittle your efforts one iota, Danny) is how close the Renesis and running gear 'fits', suggesting there's a giant somewhere in Mazda design, on whose shoulders you stand!

 

They're both built on the same line from the same platform, so it stands to reason the 'fit' is achievable with the various mods Danny has made. Would be a nightmare otherwise.

You just know that somewhere in Japan a Mazda engineer has done this himself...but isn't a sharer like our mate Danny...

Amazing project , why didnt you go for the Hymee twin screw set up ? is Blitz a better solution ?

Maybe a joint venture with the Hymster would finally get some supercharged cars out on the roads

Hi Michael, the Blitz kit is a short term solution to my time issues. I need to get this thing out on the track ASAP. It's already been 2 years since I started this project.

Hymee's twin-screw arrangement is more efficient and can generate for more flow than the Blitz kit, however I've been developing my own s'charger setup based on the more disposible Eaton M90 unit coupled with an A2W IC. It's still some time away and I need to get the rest of the car sorted.
