Installing the REVI air intake initially leans out the A/F RATIOS on the Car creating a slight power increase but once the ECU re learns itself the effect wears off IMHO.

I'm a sceptic as well.

My thoughts are; people spend money and want to find a result. there are probably gains but not that much. the test is on the track. if you can pull away from a std rx-8 on the straight you have more power.

the std air filter is dam thick and not the average paper element that I'm used to. no wonder they can extend the service intervals but at what cost? poor airflow I bet. I will be changing my air at the next service and not just cleaning it as I bet it is blocking up slowly after inspecting it. the service interval is too far apart in my opinion. Mazda was lowering servicing costs for the masses.

the V-FAD now looks like it is noise suppression and still not as cold as possible.

so no wonder you get gains with the RB intake. it addresses both of these perceived problems.

you should be able to do the same thing with a K&N replacement air filter and take it a step further with the odula air intake for cold air.

Good points , racing beat are now working on the next stage a cold air ram (.........similar to the Odula one......... )intake that fits the current REVI air intake , i say its clever marketing as once you get one you are most likely to purchase the other .

What is the benefit of having the filter as a mushroom shape rather than a flat surface?

yep you got it taka.
maybe an engineer can clarify if surface area has much to do with flow.
if the filter materials have the same restriction then, the larger filter area should be able to flow more air and maintain a higher flow for longer as they get dirty.
