Racing beats REVI AIR INTAKE FOR OZ
1 Attachment(s)
Spoke to Jim Tanner from Racing beat and hes agreed to send us a REVI air intake system for fitting and evaluation on our Australian cars
The REVI air intake will be tested and evaluated here in Australia shortly on both a Manual standard car with the original stock exhaust and on my car with the Hymee Enhanced exhaust system . :D As soon as results are available i will let you guys know the findings . Heres some information on the system a very worthwhile mod ,IMHO Racing Beat will also be releasing later this year a cold air RAM system to complement the REVI AIR INTAKE SYSTEM . Threads overseas have stated that the system works on both Manual and Automatic transmissions :D Heres one of the treads on the air intake system . https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...+intake+system . http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm RX-8 Product Update The recently released REVi Intake Kit is now available for ALL models of 2004-2005 RX-8's. This bolt-on kit is suitable for both manual and automatic transmission equipped models. REVi Air Intake Kit Racing Beat announces the release of the REVi Intake Kit for the RX-8. The REVi Intake is the result of hundreds of hours of testing and development, and the initial comments from RX-8 owners is overwhelmingly positive! Although many RX-8 owners had heard stories of other intakes being extremely loud, we have received written feedback with comments such as: " Sounds great", Sound quality is fantastic", and "Not as loud as I thought it would be, but still a 'roar' on wide open throttle". Engineered and designed by Racing Beat, the REVi Air Intake Kit provides measurable performance improvements, a tolerable sound level output, non-compromised idle characteristics, and true "cold air" benefits. Unlike many of the "tube-and-filter" systems currently on the market, the design of the REVi system allows ONLY cooler air from an area in front of the engine compartment to be drawn into the intake tract. The inlet mouth of the REVi Intake is firmed seated and sealed in place, to allow only cooler external air to enter the intake. Although other systems may provide some type of heat shield or shroud, these designs will still allow heated engine compartment air to enter the intact tract as the air is drawn around the edges of the heat shield unit. This "bolt-on" kit can be installed by a week-end mechanic using only simple hand tools. Easy-to-follow and fully detailed installation instructions will guide you through the entire process. Every kit is supplied with a custom-made K&N Air Filter unit, which offers superior performance and excellent durability. Backed by K&N with their 1,000,000 mile warranty, this extended use air filter will provide many years of performance driving. Yes, we could have opted for a cheaper import filter, but we have had great success with the K&N brand over the years! Watch for news of our "ram-air" duct that will transform this system into the ultimate "cold-air" intake system for the RX-8! (Available Summer 2005) This duct will collect cool intake air from the mouth of the RX-8, and direct this intake charge into the REVi Intake box. This system virtually eliminates the possibility of heated engine air from entering the intake tract. Available directly from Racing Beat, or through an authorized Racing Beat Dealer This was posted by Jason from the RX8 store. "REVi RX-8 Intake System* (Manual Transmission Models) After months of exhaustive development and testing, Racing Beat announces the introduction of the REVi Intake System for the RX-8 application. Designed to offer performance improvements without sacrificing drivability, the Racing Beat intake system is the final result of hundreds of hours of dyno test sessions and on-road testing. The major components of the REVi Intake System include: an OEM style air box assembly, custom-designed K&N air filter unit, aluminum mass air flow sensor tube, and a tuned-length air inlet horn. Unlike the vast majority of the aftermarket intake systems on the market, the Racing Beat intake system retains one of the important mesh screens to aid with the even distribution of airflow across the mass air sensor. The inclusion of this screen minimizes the possibility of “rough idle” issues that may occur if both stock screens are eliminated. Working with the design team at K&N Engineering, a high capacity air filter was developed that allowed us to position a tuned-length intake horn inside the filter body. This filter design allowed us to fine-tune the length of the air horn to maximize the performance potential. We have noted that most aftermarket intake systems for the RX-8 incorporate a large air filter, which is then connected to the intake manifold with a length of plastic or metal tubing. In many cases, the size of the filter that has been selected will dictate the length of tubing required, severely limiting the critical tuning importance of the air intake tube! The REVi intake system addresses one of the most common complaints that we hear regarding aftermarket intakes for the RX-8 – extremely loud intake noise! Although a simple unshielded “tube-and-filter” intake system may produce respectable top end power, the noise levels that are produced are unbearably loud. During initial testing with one of more popular aftermarket units, we recorded a full-throttle sound level reading of over 90 db inside the car, with the windows rolled up! Compared to the stock sound level, we believe that you will soon tire of this type of “rocket-racer” intake buzz. The REVi intake produces a much more modest intake sound with only a 2-3 db increase over the stock system. As described on by one of our prototype test volunteers, “This intake is definitely louder than the factory unit, but not unreasonably so. It actually sounds deep and pretty darn good.” __________________ cheers michael |
I already have one on order. :D Still waiting for it to ship though :(

I drove one today. Nicely engineered. Was hard to tell about performance, but I was driving with 3 men in the car. IAT was running about 10F above "ambient". Cheers, Hymee. |
Maybe you can stuff a whole lot of them into your hand luggage. Bring us all back one :D :D
I know when I have 3-4 of adults in my car it loses a whole lot of performance :(

With 4 guys as big as you Hymee ;) you would need a 20B with a octaganul supercharger  no wonder , the intake made no difference :)
Hopefully will have one fitted next week :D , together with the Hymsters exhaust it should be great ;) cheers michael |
any news on the REVi in AU??
|
The REVI UNIT has been tested in a car owned by a Brisbane tuning crowd , in their wisdom they tested it on a stock exhaust , they told me that it works on the Australian cars .
My request for having the car tested on a aftermarket exhaust has been overlooked and due to the fact that they dont know how to dyno the car properly  there is no positive proof of its power gain .only a butt dyno performance enhancement , so i am told . The cost of bringing this intake into Australia allowing for loss in exchange rate tarrifs and duties , and greedy dealers a figure of $700.00 has been mentioned as a retail price  and thats not including the 2 hours needed for fitting the unit if you cant wont do it yourself allow for an extra$ 120.00 I wont be paying $700.00 +++ for fitting of AN INTAKE SYSTEM THAT POSSIBLY GETS AN EXTRA 3-6HP EXTRA , and later pay more for the cold air ram duct that will join it later down the track . The initiall benefit of more noise and a possible gain in power , to me does not add up to the money asked for it . cheers michael |
There's enough info out there now to form an informed opinion on this intake. The general consensus is that it's well priced (in America), well engineered, and quieter than a lot of others.
However it's still loud in the cabin (judging by Racing Beats own sound test figures), will be expensive Downunder, and will produce only minor gains in HP. Still, if it's looks you're after, and the sound of air being swallowed at a great rate is appealing....this is probably the one to go for :) . RB plan to make them in different colours too. I'm sorry Michael, I doubt they'll be available in yellow :p . (Oh, BTW, you'll probably have to ditch it if you ever want to fit a Supercharger!) Gomez. |

I am still waiting for my REVI Intake to arrive from the states. It's coming via slow mail but I have only been charged on the visa $320US for the intake and shipping. With a little luck I won't get charged duties by the government, at least I hope it can slip through!
|
It will Stuart coz it is under $1000. I do that all the time with my parts. $500 AUD no problem.
Love to hear that on your car. |
My revi cost $309 US (under $400AUS) from brian goodwin racing in the states and cost $80 AUS to ship to oz.Arrived one week later.
No duties or taxes by oz customs. Total outlay $480 dollars. In my opinion this is NOT expensive at all.Construction quality is excellent and anodised aluminium pieces are a work of art. By not having to replace paper filter over time alone will pay for this mod. As you well know racing beat is VERY conservative with its power rating for this unit. Combined with my aluminium flywheel ,the revi has made my rx8 much faster .Breaking traction is quite easy nowadays, as both torque and power feel much more substantial.I highly recommend this intake. It is the best $480 you can spend. By the way,I only have the standard exhaust as I Know that from a hp point of view ,an aftermarket catback is really a waste of money. Regards Rexi |

Regards Rexi The best $480 you can spend on your RX-8 gets you a great short shifter and enough change for a decent bunch of roses for the missus :) . Gomez. |

Gomez. I looked at the manual, and they're not even required to check until the the 40,000km service. But I looked at my filter and it was full of dirt and other debris. Now to confirm that this is the cause of my poor economy, I've since gone to the service station and blasted a whole bunch of compressed air through it. I did notice a whole lot of garbage being dislodged from the filter, but I also noticed that air doesn't seem to move so freely through the filter. Anyways, with this tank of fuel, I've already notived a slight improvement. not much but it's there. who knows, but I'm thinking I woudl like one of these REVi thingys :D |
I agree with Gomez. IMHO, the jury is still out on the power benefits of intake mods on the 8. And you can buy a lot of air filters for the money :p
 I thought a lightened flywheel would reduce torque as measured at the rear wheels. That was always the theory when I had one on my old Cooper S. The benefit was faster revving, meaning the motor gets to its power band quicker. |

mental note to oneself... when reading the service manual for scheduled services.. take note of which country you live in and read the appropriate table  Having said that i know they didn't check my air filter. |
LittleJohn, post your service experience/details on the Scheduled Service thread.... :)

Gomez,
1. the flywheel was installed 4 months ago.NO loss of torqueand NO stalling, drivability issues period. 2. Revi installed one week ago.DEFINITE power increase on its own and good increase at that through middle to higher rev range.Just waiting for my rp midpipe to complete my mods. If you want to be a sceptic thats your problem. I have had rotatries since I was 19 and now I'm 40 and in my younger days would regularly partake in track racing with Mazda car club.I know a power increase when I feel one. Regards Rexi |
I reckon a butt dyno needs at least 20hp to work, but I'm glad your happy.
