Please don't shoot the messenger, but there has been a misquoted statement made on behalf of someone who is no longer about to post on the forum.

In the interest of fairness I will make a short statement that will clarify what Lock & Load actually said about Hymee's exhaust.

"I had mentioned that my exhaust happened to be getting louder and there was no mention of hollowness , I am more than happy with my exhaust and dont care what its packed with . " (slight edit by me)

Now let's get on with the turbo installation show...

Yeah Dave, it was. Do you or this dude from S.A have any idea who makes Hymee's mufflers? I know.....and I think some people here are in for a surprise.

I too have two small children and I am perfectly happy to have them sit in the back of my car over the top of my fume filled plastic gas tank. Why? Because it is perfectly safe, that's why.

If you are going to carry on and cast about mistruths regarding the safety of products being sold to the public, be prepared to weather the storm buddy.

I did hope this thread could be kept straight, but hey, it's yours Dave, so you can do whatever.....

Dave, we're all interested in what you are doing, but you need to lose the attitude in how it's expressed...especially the aspersions. The rest of us reading this thread are keen to find out what people can do with FI, and we're following ALL developments. Hymee is a long term contributor to the forum and to developing products that have enhanced the car, at a very good price. There are no safety or quality problems with them at all. He gives advice willingly and timelessly to people that ask the right way. Through that, and the information he has gathered and shared with us over the last couple of years, he has respect -- heaps of it. If you have a private difference of opinion with him I'd suggest you might address that directly with him rather than spraying it here...'cos that won't earn you any respect, and I guess that's what you're doing this for...isn't it?

no mention of hollowness ,

So this is a witch hunt over a word Hollowness.

Thats cool ive substantially answered to that comment in the OZ forum

https://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/vie...hp?p=7243#7243

Dont shoot me But ive always known about hymees exhaust being fiberglass packed , but never publicly mentioned it ..Remember it was someone else ( sorry Carl )

If we have to talk exhausts start a thread somewhere else remember this is about my turbo install / design

Thanx

I am so sorry Ciao to drag you into a forum bashing

It was me that stated the fiberglass thing ,not Ciao .

There was not one mention of a side attack from ANYONE!! .Whoever knows what a side attack is anyway .Sounds like a heart condit.

Its a safety issue hear not a beat up Hymee issue .

Is'nt that what a forum is about ,informing RX8 owners and( all rotary owners) of the risks ?

I dont realy care about ciao shmow hymmens shmymens or anybody else ,what's important is the facts !!

Let the Dyno Speak for itself , and if its really as good as Ciao reckons ,I am very interested ,and as we all know ,its all gonna come down to the "bang for bux"

HOW MUCH $$$$$$$ CIAO???????

From what has been said so far in this thread there is apparantly a reputation for fibreglass packed mufflers to catch fire due to the excess of heat in the exhaust.

Some quick research on ausrotary seems to indicate that older RX's with turbos have been running fibreglass mufflers but that the excessive pressure "pulses" from the rotary engine can cause the fibreglass to be pushed out because it just isn't strong enough, so the muffler ends up over time reducing in effectiveness.

Let's not forget that there are also a lot of statements being made about rotary engines since the RX-8 came out that only apply to the older rotary engines. The main one I can think of is the Mineral Oil / Synthetic oil. The Renesis Rotary is, according to Mazda, supposed to be able to handle synthetic but because the older rotary engines don't there are statments made that say that you should not use synthetic oil in the RX-8.

I don't have the expertise to know whether the RX-8 and Fibreglass Mufflers = bad but I'm sure that Hymee will either know now or will find out by the time his supercharger project is complete due to the amount of testing he will be conducting, and I'd be surprised if his test car didn't have a Hymee Exhaust.

some quotes from:
http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/fibrmufl.htm

"Selamet also said that glass fibre can better withstand the high temperatures produced in modern exhaust systems, and potentially even insulate the car from that heat."

"Historically, though, the North American auto industry has been skeptical about using filling in mufflers, and rightly so, Selamet said. Early European designs used basalt wool, which is packed in short fibres. Studies have shown that over time, these short fibres break up and blow out in the exhaust stream.

Then the car gets louder, Selamet said."

I couldn't find any info that said glass fibre was flammable, only info that house insulation batts are non-flammable, then there is the glassfibre insulation people wrap round their exhaust manifolds and other car insulations made from glass fibre etc.

maybe a hot exhaust can melt the glassfibre into marbles and make the exhaust noisy, but a fire is highly unlikely and it would be enclosed in a metal can.

conclusion: glass mufflers possibly deteriorate over time but are likely to be safe.

unless someone has evidence to the contrary then the exhaust argument is finished and the thread can go back to a discussion of a custom turbo install.

As an attempt to keep the side issue separate, and leave this thread for Ciao's turbo development effort, please go here:

Glass-Fibre/Wool packed mufflers

Cheers,
Hymee.

Oh wait I will check my garage ....it was in there beside the spare supercharger and turbo kits that I kept lying around.

REV " Bling Bling Alert Carl!!!
