He certainly has a talent for putting things into discomfortingly sharp perspective. Love the Ferrari and AM comments.

but this is best played when you REALLY, REALLY need it. Lay it on the table too often and they see you as a health risk and never promote you. Have you considered just doing it?

It's often far easier to do this than to get around not having done it. The correct answer to the "what are the risks" question is "That's a good question, and thinking about it, it's quite complex. I'll prepare a risk assessment study"
This acknowledges and compliments the manager, and creates a further procrastination excuse for any other manager ("I have to prepare a risk assessment study for X, which is why I can't do anything for you") The "diagnosis with cancer" excuse is plainly unethical. An expert always contains the context of the procrastination to the task or project itself. Besides, the expert procrastinator used the cancer diagnosis several times in primary school, and still remembers the pain following discovery
