I have a client here in Vic who restores GT Falcons for a living. When restored properly, they are a magnificent car.

I had a 1971 XY Fairmont which I spent quite a bit of money on as a young fellow. Had the usual tricked up 351 Clevo and I was consistently pulling high 12s. When I "grew" up and became an accountant my brother took the car and by the time he sold it it was on the gas and pulling high 10s with a full interior and on street tyres.

These cars were quick in a stright line, but were like tanks around corners. A totally different driving experience to the 8.

There were rumors that 3 Phase IVs were actually made. I was shown some photos of one by an ex Ford engineer who supposedly knows the person who has one of them. I'm sceptical, but it might be true.

"Stock", a Phase III accelerated about as fast as the 8... about 6.6 0-100. Of course, a worked Cleveland is a different matter

That's my understanding too. Three prototypes were made and from memory two were never registered. They were used for racing purposes (but not in factory teams) and eventually disappeared.

One was registered and is still in the hands of a collector.

Fordophiles will correct me if I'm wrong (in case one of them stumbles in here lost).

Three or four were made. One was rallied to death. Only one survives......it's in a private collection and is worth a shiteload.

The parts that were scheduled for the Phase 4 got used on normal XA GT's and were sold through the dealer network. These cars carried the code RPO83 (IIRC), and some went to those in the know who snapped them up. The rest were sold to unknowing buyers....they are worth quite a premium nowdays.
